The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that the workers would be trimming and removing limbs around the Montuak area from the bus routes, putting up road signs and fixing a flat on a grader. He stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5015 and that chips for chip and seal would be hauled from Ironton. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3270 and 3346, while brush will be cut on Dent County Road 2240. Larson said that a couple of men would also be hauling chips from Ironton and that grader #28 is being serviced. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Executive Board meeting today to review, grade and approve waste reduction and recycling grant applications for funding to be sent to the state for final approval. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that voter ID cards will be mailed out this week. She is asking everyone that when they get their card to check it over and make sure that the information is correct. If the card is not correct, you may make corrections on the back side of the card and mail it back to the clerk’s office, or drop it off at the clerk’s office in the courthouse. If you have any questions about your voter ID card, please call the Dent County Clerk’s office at 729-4144. At 10:00 Dent County Clerk Angie Curley opened bids for graders. Erb Equipment submitted a bid for a 2011 all-wheel drive grader for $219,725 with a buy back after five years of $177,225. Erb also submitted a second bid for a 2011 four-wheel drive grader for $193,000 with a buy back after five years of $145,500. Fabick submitted a bid for a 2011 all-wheel drive grader for $194,474 with a buy back after five years of $145,000. The Commissioners decided to purchase two 2011 all-wheel drive graders from Erb Equipment, and after the buy-back of the old graders, the county will owe $119,887 for each grader. Erb indicates that delivery of the graders will be made in 90-120 days. The commission will seek local financing bids at the time of delivery. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday night at the City Hall Council Chambers. The board heard from Director of Public Works Bill Huffman about used trailer-mounted light towers from Nu-Way and also from the state surplus. Huffman said that the used trailer mount lights at the state surplus were old and rusted, and buying new would cost the city between $10,000 and $12,000. He said that Nu-Way had some units in fairly good shape and the alderman agreed to let Huffman find and purchase the best used unit. The board did budget $10,000 for this item. After the board approved the consent agenda, Huffman gave a report on the Planning and Zoning Board meeting held September 12^th. He said the Planning and Zoning Board recommended that the property at 700 South Pershing be subdivided and then rezoned R-2. The Planning and Zoning Board also recommended that a special use permit for an in-home photography business be approved at 1006 East Center Street. The board approved the recommendations and an ordinance will be presented at the next meeting for both issues. Director of Engineering Bill Huffman reported that the work on the Airport Lighting Grant is finished to the point of having a pre-construction meeting. He also said that he would be at the MRPC all day today looking at grant applications for waste reduction and recycling with the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management Executive Board. Mayor Gary Brown said that a letter is being circulated stating that it is from the City of Salem regarding utilities, but the city has nothing to do with it. He also said that the new city administrator would be in town Wednesday. City Attorney William Camm Seay said that the city would have to meet to discuss a rate increase by AmerenMO of 7.11% on natural gas rates to determine how the city wants to handle the rate increase. This must be done by September 29^th by statute. He also said the aldermen need to review the duties of the Director of Public Works before the new city administrator comes on board. A meeting has been set for Monday, September 26^th at 6:15 to discuss those items. The board approved sending City Clerk Mary Happel to the Lagers meeting with a representative of the city employees before approving bills and going into closed session to discuss personnel and contracts.

An arrest was made Friday, September 16^th at 4:25 in the afternoon in Dent County. According to the Highway Patrol report, 34 year-old James Hobson of Salem was arrested on charges of probation and parole warrant for parole absconder, drug paraphernalia, and for not wearing a seatbelt. Hobson is being held in the Dent County Jail on no bond. On Saturday, September 17^th at 11:48 in the evening in Dent County 42 year-old Anthony Wofford of Salem was arrested and taken to the Dent County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and was then released.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers game with Dixon Monday was postponed due to wet grounds. No make-up date has been set. The Lady Tigers will host the Willow Springs Lady Bears this afternoon at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host Ava tonight at the SHS gym with the JV contest at 6:00 followed by the varsity game.

Kyle Lohse outdueled Roy Halladay, and Lance Berkman drove in a pair of runs as the St. Louis Cardinals moved closer in the wild card race with a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia. Lohse (14-8) worked 7 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits and one unearned run with five strikeouts. Nick Punto and Albert Pujols knocked in a run each for the Cardinals. The Cards host the Mets tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

The Royals were off yesterday and will host Detroit tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

Michael Boley recovered a lateral pass and ran 65-yards for a score, and a pair of Eli Manning touchdown passes boosted the Giants to a 28-16 win over St. Louis Monday night. Sam Bradford ended 22-of-46 for 331 yards with a TD. That went to Danario Alexander, who caught three balls for 122 yards.

Funeral services for Mabel Irene Warren of Salem, age 74, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Memorial services for Betty A. Hart of Salem, age 90, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Salem United Methodist Church or the Dent County Museum.
