The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers. After the roll call and approval of the consent agenda, Grace Community Church will request permission to block off Water Street from Franklin Street to the south end of their parking lot for the purpose of a weekend event that will celebrate the 75^th anniversary of their church beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 15^th and ending Sunday, October 17^th at 3:00 in the afternoon. In unfinished business, the board will discuss the ongoing problems with R&C Family Mobile Home Park. The Board will also discuss the existing pole agreements and franchise fee. Mayor Gary Brown will report on the MML Conference held last week and alderman reports will also be heard. Park and Recreation Director Greg Nash will then give his report on the Park Board Meeting that was held on September 14^th. City Clerk Mary Happel will present Bill #3208 for approval. The bill would create a needed ordinance so the Mayor can sign the contract with MoDOT for the construction of sidewalks along Route J from the hiking and biking trail to the city park. In new business, Waste Corporation will request approval from the Board to hold the fall cleanup the week of October 11^th-15^th. Nanci Wisdom will then present a request from the Cozumel Mexican Restaurant for a liquor license. The Board will then adjourn. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

A Beef Cattle Grading Clinic and Pasture Walk will be held on Thursday, September 23^rd starting at 3:00 pm at the Salem Livestock Auction and will feature Corbitt Wall with the USDA-MO Livestock and Grain Market News Service. The clinic will provide information on the USDA feeder cattle grading system to include muscle, frame and condition scoring. After the grading clinic participants will have time to eat in Salem before heading to the Pasture Walk which begins at 6:30 pm at the Denny and Mary Beth Pogue Farm, which is located by taking Highway 68 north to Highway F, go about two miles to the farm entrance on the right. The Pogue’s own and operate a commercial beef farm and have used the Management Intensive Grazing for about 15 years. MU Extension State Beef Nutrition Specialist Dr. Justin Sexten will serve as a guest speaker. There is no cost for this program. An accident happened Sunday evening at 6:25 on Route AC about two miles south of Boss in Dent County. According to the highway patrol report, 17-year old John R. Skaggs of Boss was driving a 1989 Yamaha ATV southbound when he lost control of the ATV. It overturned and ejected Skaggs from the vehicle. Skaggs suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. The Yamaha sustained extensive damage and Skaggs was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The ATV was left at the scene at the request of the owner.

The Dent County Farm Bureau and the Dent County Cattleman are sponsoring a public meeting about the reintroduction of Elk in Missouri and the concerns among area landowners. The meeting will be held tomorrow night at the Salem City Hall beginning at 7:00. Mr. Tom Draper, Deputy Director Missouri Conservation Commission; Mr. Dan Cassidy, Chief Administrative Officer Missouri Farm Bureau; Mr. Jeff Windett, Executive Vice-President Missouri Cattleman Association; and Tom Jones, representing the Rocky Mountain Elk Association will be the speakers and each will have 15 minutes for their presentations. Following the four speakers there will be a question and comment period with no more than five minutes per individual for comments. The meeting will adjourn at 9:00 pm.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly budget workshop tomorrow at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will conduct the budget workshop followed by a question and answer period. The monthly budget workshop of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.
