The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the hospital library. For the month of August, the hospital had revenues over expenses of $65,708 before taxes and $68,221 after tax collections. Savings in administrative costs helped with the larger than expected revenues along higher than expected outpatient registrations and ER use. The days for funds in net accounts receivable dropped to just 53 days this past month with a large payment from Medicare on accounts over 90 days. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported that there were 830 emergency room visits with 86 transfers, 161 ambulance runs with 25 dry runs, 25 surgeries, 1,421 outpatient registrations, 270 Home Health visits, 7,166 lab tests, 1,080 radiological procedures, 285 CT scans, 25 MRI’s, 17 nuclear med scans, 278 rehabs, 142 dialysis treatments and 356 clinical visits. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said that the hospital auxiliary would hold a breast cancer awareness dinner at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center on October 20th at 6:30 with Dr. Mary Graham the featured speaker. Tickets are $10.00 each and are available from the auxiliary or call the hospital at 729-6626. Pryor said that there were 48 participants in the Employee Commitment to Health Challenge. He reported that $882,352 has already been spent on the Physician’s Office Building Three. Pryor said that the Medical Practice Management Software is working fairly well but, but the system would not be implemented further until Dr. Pharr moved in to his new office in Physician’s Office Building #3. Pryor did say the General Wellness Screening would be held November 11th, 12th and 13th at the hospital library from 6:00 to 9:00. This will also include a diabetes screening and many other services. Pryor reported on the Statewide Employee Health Insurance Consortium and he said he thought that 32 hospitals are participating, but he would know more on October 1st when they meet. Pryor said that he hasn’t heard anything on the grant offered to the hospital from Missouri Enterprises, and that further review of the hospital by-laws will be needed. There were two unbudgeted purchases in August: the first to CDWG in the amount of $189 for a multi-function fax machine, and the second to Bottorff Appliance Center for a Whirlpool Dryer for $319. The board then voted to go into closed session.
