The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving assault. On September 15^th at 5:53 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a resident located off of Dent County Road 628A, of a combative 20-year old male who reportedly was intoxicated and had been inhaling paint. George M. Laughlin of Jadwin was taken into custody and while being secured, head butted the deputy. While en-route to the department, Laughlin began beating the patrol car’s cage and attempted to escape by breaking the rear passenger window. The deputy then called for assistance and the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Salem Police Department responded. Laughlin was then transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital where he was treated and released. Laughlin was incarcerated and given a summons for being under 21 in possession intoxicating liquor by consumption and for property damage in the 2^nd degree to County property. A warrant was later issued for assault on a law enforcement officer with bond set at $10,000. On September 16^th 6:42 in the evening, the department received a report of an assault at a residence located off of Dent County Road 501 between a mother and a daughter involving a pair of scissor. Upon arrival, the deputy investigated the report and it was resolved. On September 17^th, a walk in reported an assault, which occurred at a residence located off of Highway 19 North. The incident was reported to have occurred at 11:00 that morning. It was reported a female entered the residence and assaulted another female who had been in bed asleep. Deputies responded to the residence and upon investigation obtained information, which will be forwarded to the prosecutor for consideration of charges. Anyone with any information on these incidents is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 538 and 650 and a driveway would be put in on Dent County Road 508. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 411, 412, and 421. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 251 and on various roads in the Howes Mill area and a crew would be hauling rock to the crusher. Commissioner Simpson also reported that Districts 1 and 2 would be finishing up the counties part in the Industrial Development Authority project, which is the Rightway Home expansion for mobile home refurbishing. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a MRPC last Thursday night in St. James. At the meeting, Skiles said the roadway concerns for the Meremac area, which included turning Highway 63 into four lanes, adding shoulders to numbered routes, improving letter routes and turning Highway 50 from Jefferson City to St. Louis into four lanes, were taken to Jefferson City and presented to MODOT and state legislators at the beginning of the month. After review, all four have been placed in the top third of roadway concerns in Missouri and will be reviewed again in November, when discussion on how to fund these projects will begin. The Commission also received a check for $8,370.32 from Social Services to be given to the Agape home. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley presented to the Commission for review and approval, the contract from Spatial Data Research for rural addressing. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public

The Salem JV Football Team lost to Owensville Monday night by the score of 28-0. Salem trailed 21-0 at halftime and had only two first downs on the evening. Franky Boyd recovered a fumble and Andy Kissir had an interception for the Tigers who fall to 1-1 on the year. They will travel to Houston next Monday.

Pinch-hitter Rod Barajas knocked in the go- ahead run in the 14th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies outlasted the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4, in the middle game of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Todd Wellemeyer started for St. Louis, but made it just two innings, allowing one earned run on one hit, while walking three and striking out a pair. St. Louis used ten different relievers, who combined to surrender six runs on seven hits over 12 frames. Maroth (0-5) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Miguel Cairo was 3-for-6 for the Cardinals, who have now lost 12 of their last 13 games. The two teams combined to use 53 players, tying a National League record - including 19 total pitchers. Cardinals' pitcher Mark Mulder had an MRI and nerve conduction study on his left shoulder Tuesday, the results of which will be available today. The Cards and Phillies tangle again tonight starting at 6:50 on KSMO Radio.

Billy Butler's two-run single capped a three-run first inning and the Kansas City Royals held on for a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in the second of a four-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City starter Gil Meche (9-12) went seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Meche surpassed the 200-inning mark, becoming the first Kansas City pitcher to do so since Darrell May threw 210 innings in 2003. He has not allowed more than three runs in each of his last eight starts. Jason Smith tripled for Royals, who have won two of three. Joakim Soria tossed a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 20 chances. The Royals are now one win shy of reaching 3,000 in franchise history. The White Sox and Royals play again tonight.

Brendan Morrow scored the tie-breaking goal 36 seconds into the third period and the Dallas Stars held on to edge the St. Louis Blues 6-5 in preseason action. Patrik Berglund, Martin Rucinsky, Lee Stempniak, Eric Johnson and Matt Walker each scored a goal and Paul Kariya dished out four assists for the Blues, who have dropped both of its preseason games.

Funeral services for Norma E. Wilson of St. Louis, formerly of Salem, age 86, will be held on this morning at 11:30 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer Association.

Funeral services for Ellis Roland Sample of Salem, age 91, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Sample Family Cemetery in Turtle, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Salem in lieu of flowers.

Funeral services for John Elba Southards of St. Peters, age 74, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the New Home Cemetery.

Funeral services for Doris Mae Wisdom of Salem, age 84, will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Family and friends gathering for Charles Gustave Zorn of Bland formerly of Steelville, age 79, will be held Saturday at 1402 Highway A in Owensville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral of Steelville.
