The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their September meeting tonight at the district administrative boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agendas and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal will update the Board on building projects. Principals from the respective building will then give their reports. In new business the Board will approve bus routes, consider an increase to substitute pay and consider a resolution of opposing Amendment 3. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose or discussing personnel. The September meeting of the Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of August. During the month, they wrote four equipment repair orders, 28 summons to appear in court, 48 warning tickets, and 42 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 20 accidents, two assaults, one assault of a law enforcement officer, two burglaries, one report of child abuse, six reports of disorderly conduct, one report of a disorderly house, three reports of domestic assault, two reports of domestic violence, four reports of driving while intoxicated, three reports of driving while revoked and/or suspended, one report of failure to register as a sex offender, one report of false impersonation, one report of fraudulent use of a credit and/or debit device, one report of hindering prosecution and one report of indecent exposure. The department also investigated four reports of leaving the scene of the accident, two reports of a lost and/or stolen license plate and/or tags, one report of minor in possession of intoxicants, one report of a missing person, one report for open containers, six reports of property damage, one report of rape, two reports of resisting and/or interfering with arrest, 21 reports of stealing, three reports of tampering, one report of trespassing and one report of a violation expartee and/or full order of protection. They also investigated one report to attempt to distribute amphetamine, two reports of possession of amphetamine, one report of possession of heroin, four reports of possession of marijuana, three reports of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one report of possession of synthetic narcotics. The police department received 1,810 calls for service during the month, handled 135 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 69 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 26 hours in court testifying, and four hours as court bailiff. The calls in August included 20 calls for escorts, two calls for an intoxicated driver, six calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, three intoxicated pedestrian calls, 13 calls for domestic disputes, and nine calls for a wrecker. There were 10 911 calls, six calls for a peace disturbance, three calls for alarms sounding, two calls for fights in progress, seven ambulance assist calls, five calls for drag racing and/or speeding vehicles, one fire call and two calls for property damage. They drove 9,065 miles and arrested 29 males and 9 females.

The Dent County Sheriff’s office released reports involving property damage. On Saturday, September 13th, deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of County Road 4280 for a report of property damage. Upon arrival, they made contact with a male subject who stated that his mailbox had been damaged. There were two other mailboxes discovered in the area that had been damaged also. No suspect information was given and the investigation continues. On Monday, September 15th at 10:00 am, a deputy traveled to the 1800 block of County Road 5110 in regards to property damage. Upon arrival the deputy was met by the victim, who stated that everything was normal and nothing was damaged on Sunday, September 14th. When he woke up that morning, he discovered that his mailbox was missing and that his fence was damaged. This past weekend showed that several residences had damage to property and mailboxes. The areas where these incidents happen are all east of Salem. One was off Dent County Road 5110 between Highway 32 East and Route P off of Route MM. Anyone that can assist with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 729-3241.

The University of Missouri Wurdack Farm at Cook Station, will host a Management Intensive Grazing School on Thursday, September 25th & Friday, September 26th. The two-day program will include guest speakers covering the topics of grazing system layout and design, watering systems, fence systems, soil fertility, livestock nutrition, and forage quality and growth. Additionally, two farm tours will be included to allow participants to get hands on experience, and observe existing grazing systems. The cost of the two-day school is $85 per person or $120 per farm couple. This fee includes the cost of meals and the resource books and other handout materials pertinent to the course. The Salem Lady Softball Tiger make up game with Ava scheduled for yesterday was rained out and has been rescheduled for September 24th. The Lady Tigers are 5-1 and will host Steelville today at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will also be filmed by Fidelity Local 6.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host Mountain Grove tonight at the SHS gym. Salem is 0-10-1 on the year and JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow.

Adam Wainwright notched St. Louis' first hit with two outs in the sixth and tossed his third shutout of the season in the Cardinals' 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Wainwright (19-9) gave up seven hits and stuck out seven. Wainwright, Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta had the only three hits for the Cardinals, who remained 2 1/2 games ahead of the Pirates for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals and Brewers play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO starting with the pre-game at 6:40.

Lorenzo Cain collected three hits including a three-run home run, as Kansas City claimed a 6-2 decision over Chicago in the rubber match of a three-game series. Yordano Ventura limited the ChiSox to a run on three hits and two walks while fanning seven over seven innings as Kansas City pulled within a half-game of the AL Central lead. The Royals have the day off.

Funeral services for Carl William Richards of Wappapello, age 61, will be held today at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Carl Richards family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for George Stolte of St. James will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lola Brown of Salem, age 87, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Noah Abraham Pyatt of Cherryville, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the Britton Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery in Davisville.

Graveside services for Lucille Smith of Salem, age 92, will be held Sunday at 2:30 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
