The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for the regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. In the summary of operations, Controller Becky Cunningham indicated that even though outpatient registrations and ER visits were up for August, the hospital had a loss from operations of $39,963, and after the tax revenue, the excess of expenses over revenues stood at $36,102. For the year, the hospital is showing a gain from operations of $11,275 with an excess of revenues over expenses after tax revenues of $19,233. Cash increased during the month by $327,051 and two CD’s were renewed. Days in accounts receivable for August stood at 40 and that is two less days than in July, and eleven days less than last August. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said the auditors would meet with the finance committee on October 22
nd at 4:30 before meeting with the board at 6:00. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported that during the month, there were 875 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 116 minutes. Also during the month, there were 176 ambulance runs with 173 patients being assessed, 31 surgery cases, 1,754 outpatient registrations, 190 home health visits, 8,632 lab tests, 984 radiological procedures, 147 CT scans, 21 MRI scans, 23 nuclear med scans, 492 rehab treatments, 267 dialysis treatments and 295 clinical visits of which 147 were for podiatry. The board reviewed ambulance response times from within the hospital for the fiscal year 2012 and for the month of August for all calls and for just 9-1-1 calls. Pryor talked about the discussion on changing the definition of what constitutes a Critical Access Hospital that could challenge the Salem Hospital’s designation. Pryor reviewed the Electronic Medical Record timeline that shows the scanning of records being done for CPSI, and statistics being done for meaningful use by office managers for All-Scripts. The board set the date for the next Foundation Program meeting for October 24
th at noon at the hospital library. In the Annual Bylaw Review, board member A.J. Seay suggested that the by-laws be changed to not allow anyone who owes back personal property and/or real estate taxes from serving on the board. Board member Ray Bruno said that the physician’s hold bi-monthly meetings while the bylaws say that the meetings are held monthly. Bruno also wanted to look at the by-laws that state that the hospital not use propaganda to influence the legislature. Attorney Weaver and Administrator Pryor will talk with MHA about that terminology and what it really means. The board approved the purchase of a new desktop computer from SHI for Radiology for $1,328. Kathy Weldon then discussed the $50,000 competitive grant that the hospital received from the Missouri Hospital Association for workforce development. She said that the hospital would receive four payments of $12,500 with the first payment on October 15
th. Her goals are to develop a dedicated training and resource room, convert paper training to electronic methods, develop a mobile training system and create a presentation room. After Weldon’s presentation, the board went into closed session.
An accident happened at 11:30 Tuesday morning in Franklin County on I-44 at mile marker 242 that took the life of a man from Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Ford Escort driven by 78-year old Jessie Moss of Licking was traveling westbound on I-44, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Emergency personnel pronounced Moss dead at the scene and Russell Mortuary took his body to the St. Louis County Morgue. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Escort sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by I-44 Towing.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol released their arrest reports for Dent County. On Sunday, September 8th at 2:53 in the afternoon, 54-year old Linda Anderson of Salem was arrested and charged with a DWI for drugs and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident. She was held in the Dent County Jail. On Tuesday, September 10th at 1:10 in the afternoon, 39-year old Calvin McEntire of Salem was arrested and charged with a felony for driving while revoked and no seatbelt. He was held in the Dent County Jail. On Saturday, September 14th at 11:10 at night, 23-year old Ian Supple-Odell was arrested and charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance (psylocybin mushrooms), unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and failure to properly affix front license plate. He was taken to the Dent County jail and put on a 24-hour hold.
The Dent County Sheriff’s office released their reports. On Tuesday, September 10th at 3:40 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a call about stolen property at the Missouri Department of Conservation building located on Highway 32 West. A deputy spoke to Conservation Agent Midyett. Midyett stated that sometime over the weekend an unknown subject and or subjects had taken all four wheels and tires off an unmarked U.S. Forest Service truck. The truck is described as a Green 1995 Toyota Tacoma that was found resting on white PVC piping and cinder blocks. Then on Friday, September 13th at 5:30 in the morning, a resident contacted the Dent County Sheriff's Office in regards to his neighbor's car being vandalized. The person stated that he was on his way to work when he noticed that someone had spray painted his neighbors car. Upon arrival the Deputy noticed that the drivers side of the victims personal vehicle had been spray-painted. Anyone with any information regarding these reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s office by calling 729-3241.
