The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse in their regular meeting. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5090, 6410, 6610 and 6665. He stated that rock would be added to Dent County Roads 6220 and 6635 and grading was also going to be done on 6220. Purcell reported that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6190. In District Two, Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 3250, 3260, 3270, 3273 and 4430. He said that a pipe was being installed on Dent County Road 2140 and then rock would be added to that road.  Rock was also going to be hauled to Dent County Road 2150 and they hope to finish that road this week. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he reached Susan Cunningham with Spatial Data Research about making an easier to read small map of Dent County. Cunningham said that she would get with the Salem TCRC and instruct them on how to edit the map to get the desired results. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that two more FEMA worksheets have been submitted for payment totaling $29,050.72. That brings the total amount submitted to $107,922.13. At the previous meeting, Joe Weber with GS & M Architectural Company who specializes in criminal justice buildings and new jails for counties, visited with the commission. He and Sheriff Stallings are going to go to Vernon County to view their jail. Sheriff Stallings then presented the commission with a copy of the Crawford County ordinance that sets a countywide speed limit for their review. Commissioner Skiles said that the Scenic Rivers Industries can make county road signs for private drives for $25. Rob Soucey with the Agape Home discussed his reimbursement request for $8,305 that they have spent out of the $19,138 that is budgeted. Circuit Clerk Ruth Ann Williams brought in some information concerning the court consolidation that will take place on January 1st. 2010.The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, theft and a traffic stop. On Wednesday, September 16th at 8:00 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 1200 block of West Center in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown had thrown a rock and broke a side glass on a 2006 Pontiac. At 10:00 a.m. the same morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen Weed Eater brand weed eater. The theft occurred in the 1300 block of South Wines. The weed eater is orange in color and valued at $25. Then at 4:00 that afternoon, an officer stopped a vehicle on a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem man for a warrant from Shannon County and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted bond on the warrant and was released on the drug paraphernalia charge with a citation to appear in court. Also arrested was a 29-year old Salem man for possession of marijuana. He was issued a citation to appear in court and released. And at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen bicycle from the 1600 block of South Water. The investigation revealed that person or persons unknown removed a 20-inch green in color NEXT bicycle from the residence. Anyone with information on the property damage or theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police at 729-4242.

The Salem Football Tigers will clash with the Ava Bears in an SCA matchup tonight in Ava. Both teams enter the game with a 2-1 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers beat the Licking Lady Wildcats in two straight games, 25-19 and 25-23. The JV Tigers lost in three games to Licking. Salem will be at Houston next Tuesday.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat Steelville yesterday, 21-9, to improve to 3-6 on the year. The JV lost in three innings, 5-1. Salem will be at Potosi today before participating in the St. James Tournament this weekend.

The St. Louis Cardinals face the Chicago Cubs this weekend starting tonight at 7:00. The Cards magic number is 8 after Chicago lost to Milwaukee yesterday. KSMO Radio will join the game tonight after Salem Tiger Football.

Josh Anderson and Miguel Olivo each hit three- run home runs as the Kansas City Royals clobbered the Detroit Tigers, 9-2, in the finale of a three-game set. Willie Bloomquist went 4-for-5 with two runs scored while Alberto Callaspo went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who have won eight of their last 10 games. Zack Greinke (14-8) got the win as he went five innings and was charged with just three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Greinke is 3-0 over his last five starts. Kansas City plays in Chicago this weekend.

The Missouri Football Tigers will face Furman Saturday starting at noon on KSMO Radio. Missouri enters the game with a 2-0 record.

Th St. Louis Rams will be at Washington to face the Redskins Sunday at noon while the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Oakland Raiders also at noon. All the teams are 0-1 on the season.

Funeral services for William “Bill” L. Dalton of Salem, age 91, will be held today at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Charles “Chuck” Dale Davis of Rolla, age 63, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials are suggested to the Long Meadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Missouri.

Graveside services for Dorothy M. Hightower, age 86, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Davis Cemetery in Maries County. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for James Edward Carlton of Rolla, age 74, will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 1:30 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla.

Funeral services for Mary B. Basford of St. James, age 87, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Memorial services for Janice Marie Berryman of Rolla, age 72, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time Wednesday.
