The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, both districts road crews will be repairing and replacing road signs. In District 1, Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that a tree will be cut on the county right-of-way on Dent County Road 5630, and brush will be cut on Dent County Road 5520. He also said that the county crews would be out patch grading washouts. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said that dead trees are going to be removed from the county right-of-way on Dent County Roads 2530 and 3290. He stated that workers were checking for washouts, repairing the chip and sealed Dent County Road 3260, and the road crew will grade Dent County Road 2320 if it is not too wet. Larson further reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3330 and 4290. Larson wanted to remind motorists that the speed limit on Dent County Road 3290 is 25 miles per hour as many people traveling the road are well in excess of that speed. He said that the Dent County Sheriff’s Department could put a deputy there to write tickets for drivers who exceed the speed limit. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that all the commissioners attended the Salem Area Community Betterment Association presentation Tuesday to the Missouri Community Betterment Judges at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Center in town. He said that the presentation went very well. He also said that he attended the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting at the MRPC offices Tuesday and was updated on the rehab properties, and also received an update on the HPRRP program. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee voting for the November General Election would begin September 21^st. In other business, the Dent County Elected Officials made a $400 contribution to the Press Box Renovation Fund spearheaded by Stan Podorski of KSMO Radio to help pay for the renovations to the football field press box to make the building safer for the students who work in the concession stand and for the coaches and volunteers upstairs. At the last meeting, Dent County Assessor Brenda Bell presented her mapping contract with Landmark Surveying Company to the commission at a monthly rate of $575. The contract was approved and signed by all the commissioners. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred on Saturday, September 11^th at 4:10 in the afternoon at the intersection of Highway 19 and Rolla Road. According to the Salem Police report, a 1993 Ford Escort driven by Anglique Bunton of Salem, left the roadway about 85 feet south of Rolla Road, struck several support beams, and broke three store front windows. The Ford Escort continued on the sidewalk causing extensive damage to the 500 block of Highway 19. The Ford Escort sustained extensive damage, and Bunton was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment.

An accident occurred on Friday, September 10^th at 2:13 in the afternoon in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1999 Dodge Dakota driven by Jerry Myers of Boss was attempting to make a right turn onto Highway 32 and was struck by a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driven by Robert Brendell of Salem, who was checking cross traffic. The Dodge Dakota sustained minor damage, and the Jeep Cherokee sustained moderate damage. A passenger in the Dodge Dakota sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by a private vehicle.

A Beef Cattle Grading Clinic and Pasture Walk will be held on Thursday, September 23^rd starting at 3:00 pm at the Salem Livestock Auction and will feature Corbitt Wall with the USDA-MO Livestock and Grain Market News Service. The clinic will provide information on the USDA feeder cattle grading system to include muscle, frame and condition scoring. After the grading clinic participants will have time to eat in Salem before heading to the Pasture Walk which begins at 6:30 pm at the Denny and Mary Beth Pogue Farm, which is located by taking Highway 68 north to Highway F, go about two miles to the farm entrance on the right. The Pogue’s own and operate a commercial beef farm and have used the Management Intensive Grazing for about 15 years. MU Extension State Beef Nutrition Specialist Dr. Justin Sexten will serve as a guest speaker. There is no cost for this program.
