The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on a draft Total Maximum Daily Load, or TMDL, document describing pollutant reductions needed to improve water quality in the Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek study areas. The Department determined Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek are impaired due to lead and zinc and do not meet water quality standards. A TMDL is a study of the impaired waters that establishes the maximum amount of a pollutant the waters can absorb before their quality is affected. The draft Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek TMDLs propose targets for lead and zinc to improve the water quality of the creek. The Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek TMDL information sheet also includes background information on the water bodies, provides an overview of the situation and usually includes a data sheet and map of the water bodies. Copies of the Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek TMDLs and supporting documents can be obtained by calling the Department's Water Protection Program at 800 361-4827 or (573) 751-6623. The public is encouraged to participate in this process with comments regarding the content of the document. The program will accept written comments regarding the Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek TMDLs through Wednesday, October 7th. Comments should be sent to the Department of Natural Resources, Water Protection Program, Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Section, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176.
