The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning and Lela Cotner from the Sheltered Workshop was in attendance. She told the commission that UPS would install the address signs and pole they make for people who are homebound and would like one at their driveway. This is a community service of UPS. Cotner said UPS only does this for homebound people and you need to let the Sheltered Workshop know that when you are buying your address sign. In the road report, both commissioners said that numerous trees were down and crews were out cutting up those that were blocking roads on Sunday as well as Monday. Commissioner Simpson said that the central and western portions were hit hardest in his district. Graders were out doing patchwork where possible. Commissioner Tune said that trees had blocked Dent County Roads 2330, 3150 and 4380 on Sunday and crews were still working on 4380 Monday as a lot of trees fell along that road. Tune, Simpson and Presiding Commissioner Skiles wanted to thank those in the county that were able to cut up and remove trees down in their area across roads, and also wanted to thank the Dent County Fire Protection District for their help in cutting up trees and answering phone calls for the sheriff’s department when their electric went out. Tune also said that there were a few washouts and they will be addressed as soon as possible as crews will be working on the repairs the biggest part of this week. Commissioner Skiles attended a Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting to discuss grants on Tuesday. He also reported that the Lenox Rural Fire Department had a complaint with the sheriff’s department about the improper dispatch on September 9^th. Wofford explained the Rolla Central Dispatch gave the Dent County Dispatch a location on Dent County Road 5280 at 5:46 in the afternoon and deputies began going that way with the ambulance being sent at 5:55 toward Boss. At 6:00, the dispatcher was called and was told the road was Dent County Road 3020 at the intersection of Route FF, but the road was actually 3050 as 3020 doesn’t intersect Route FF and it took the dispatcher about 10 minutes to figure out the correct location and to re-dispatch. Wofford will meet with the Lenox fire chief to go over the course of events. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminds everyone that the last day to register to vote is October 8^th. If you have moved, aren’t sure you are a registered voter, or you don’t know your polling place, call 729-4144. Curley also said that she will be holding a voter registration at the high school today. She also recommended that when the sample ballot comes out, that people should read it and become familiar with it before going to the polls as it is very long. The commission then approved paying the annual dues to the MRPC of $4,527.98. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will be closed on Monday, September 22^nd due to Teacher Professional Development. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 23^rd.   

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, tampering and a burglary. On September 7^th at 9:00 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. Investigation of the report revealed that person(s) unknown took a white 20-inch Mongoose bicycle from a residence in the 700 block of South Pershing. On September 8^th at 3:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from the mail. Investigation of the report revealed that person(s) unknown took an EBT card from a mailbox in the 300 block of East Truman. On September 10^th at 12:58 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of West Fourth Street in reference to someone attempting to steal a vehicle. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 40-year old Salem male for tampering with a motor vehicle. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. At 12:30 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Dent County Health Center in reference to a burglary. Investigation of the report revealed that person(s) unknown entered the building next door recently purchased by the Dent County Health Center and took a furnace and a central air unit valued at $2,000. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts or the burglary, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County Health Center will be holding a Flu Clinic on Friday, October 3^rd at the Salem Freedom Activity Center from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Everyone is eligible and the cost is $20. The Health Center will bill Medicare or Medicaid; however, you must bring your card with you. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat Bourbon yesterday by the score of 14-3. The Lady Tigers are now 3-5 on the year. No JV game was played. The Lady Tigers will face Steelville on Thursday at the Salem City Park Field.

Corey Patterson had two hits and two runs driven in to propel the Reds to a 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park. Edwin Encarnacion drove in three runs on a bases-loaded double while seven different players scored a run for the Reds, winners of three straight. Braden Looper (12-13) gave up four runs on six hits and a walk, with five strikeouts, to suffer the loss. Troy Glaus and Aaron Miles each finished with two hits, including a home run for the Cardinals, who have dropped six in a row. The Cards and Reds play tonight at 5:500 on KSMO Radio.

John Buck drove in two runs on a pair of hits and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Seattle Mariners by a 6-3 margin in the second contest of a four-game series from Kauffman Stadium. Buck, Ryan Shealy and David DeJesus each hit a home run for the Royals, who have won five straight and six of their last seven. Brandon Duckworth (3-1) held the Mariners to just two runs on five hits with a pair of walks and as many strikeouts through six frames to get the win. The two teams play again tonight in KC.
