On Thursday, September 12
th, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and South Central Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the 12000 block of Highway 32 West. During a search of the property, over 10 one pot clandestine methamphetamine “shake and bake labs” and chemicals commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine were located and seized from the shop building. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located inside of the residence. As a result of the search, 44-year old William Berardy of Salem, and 48-year old Janet Johnson, also of Salem, were arrested. Berardy and Johnson are currently being held in the Dent County Jail on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child. Berardy’s bond has been set at $50,000 cash only and Johnson’s bond has been set at $75,000 cash only.
An accident occurred at 11:27 Friday night in Crawford County on Route TT about three miles east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 57 year-old David A. Horner of Columbia, traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway and returned to the roadway. The Chevrolet then overturned, traveling off the right side of the roadway before coming to rest. Horner was wearing a seat restraint and sustained moderate injuries. Steelville ambulance transported him to Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
An accident occurred in Salem on Monday, September 9th, at 3:41 PM on Highway 32 at the intersection of Highway 72. According to the Salem Police report, a southbound 2007 Lincoln MK2, driven by Warren Bay of Salem, crossed the intersection of Highway 72 onto Highway 32 and stopped in the center lane with the rear of the vehicle in the westbound lane. A westbound 1998 Dodge Dakota, driven by Michelle Tiefenthaler of Salem, made contact with the Lincoln. Bay sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Dodge sustained minor damage, while the Lincoln sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.
An accident occurred at 3:10 Sunday afternoon in St. Francois County on the East Cove of Monsanto Lake on the shoreline trail. According to the highway patrol report, 23-year old Lauren Conaway of Salem was riding a 2004 Honda ATV east on the trail when she struck a rock, causing the ATV to overturn and come to rest in the lake. Conaway suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by private conveyance.
The Riverways Pregnancy Resource Center in Salem recently received a $16,636 grant from the Missouri Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. Grants are awarded for one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional four years based on the performance outcome of the program and the availability of CTF funds. During the last three years, the grantee is required to fund an increasing proportion of the program’s cost.
The Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street is hosting a Community Quilt Exhibit through October 6th with assistance from the Current River Scrappers Quilt Guild. At the exhibit, you will find numerous quilts of all types, shapes and sizes. The hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays with some possible weekend hours. In addition to the exhibit, the Current River Scrappers Quilt Guild will provide a demonstration with an AccuCut on Thursdays, and offer other sewing demonstrations on Tuesdays. This is sixth year for the quilt exhibit.

Zayne Kyzer rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries and Dylan Wisdom added two touchdown runs as the Salem Tigers beat the Owensville Dutchmen by the score of 30-13 Friday night. Kyzer had touchdown runs of 33 and 73 yards respectively as the Tigers mode to 3-0 on the season and will have their first home game of the year Friday night when they host the Thayer Bobcats.
The Salem 9th Grade/JV Combined Football game will be held at 5:30 this afternoon at the Salem Football Field against Owensville.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to Van Buren in the third place game at the Potosi Tournament Saturday by the score of 7-5 after getting off to a 5-1 lead in the first inning only to have Van Buren score five runs in the second inning and hold on for the win. Earlier, Salem lost to St. Genevieve by the score of 16-5 to start the day’s play before coming from a 7-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning against St. Clair and beating the Lady Bulldogs, 8-7. Salem is now 6-7 on the year and they are 2-0 in the SCA as they will travel to Thayer today to face the Lady Bobcats at 4:30.
The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball team will host West Plains tonight at the SHS gym. The Lady Tigers are 0-4 on the year. The JV will kick things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow.
Yadier Molina had four hits, including a solo homer, and scored three runs on Sunday and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Seattle Mariners 12-2 to remain tied for the NL Central lead. Matt Adams hit a two-run homer for St. Louis and Shelby Miller (14-9) threw five innings for the win. The Cardinals will start a four-game series with the Rockies tonight in Colorado and you can hear it on KSMO Radio at 7:05.
Alex Avila homered twice to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. The Royals fell 3 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay for the final wild card spot in the AL. The Royals will start a series with the Indians today.
Julio Jones put forth a monster 182-yard performance as the Atlanta Falcons held off a late St. Louis Rams comeback to take a 31-24 victory on Sunday. Sam Bradford threw for touchdowns on his last three possessions, but the Rams (1-1) were unable to dig themselves out of 24-3 halftime deficit. The Rams will play the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday at noon.
Alex Smith finished 21-of-36 for 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Ryan Succop hit the deciding field goal early in the fourth quarter as Kansas City nipped Dallas, 17-16, in a Week 2 matchup from Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs will play the Eagles in Philadelphia on Thursday.
The St. Louis Blues defeated the Dallas Stars in their first pre-season game of training camp by a score of 6-5 with a shoot-out win. The Blues will next play Friday in Florida. The next Blues broadcast will be September 25th at 6:30.

Funeral services for Mildred Marie Watson of Salem, age 85, will be today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the service time at 1:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Watson Family.
Funeral services for Edna Armstrong of St. Louis and formerly of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
