According to Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings, six people were arrested after a search warrant was issued for allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine in the city near the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary School on Sunday, September 13^th on East Roosevelt Street. Arrested were 34-year old David McGraw and 28-year old Lisa McGraw and each was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine within 2,000 feet of the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary School, possession of methamphetamine and keeping or maintaining a public nuisance. Also arrested were 21-year old Anthony Flores, 22-year old Raquel Flores, 29-year old Joseph Smith and 20-year old Suzanne Briggs, all of Salem and they were each charged with the manufacture of methamphetamine within 2,000 feet of the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary School. All six were being held in the Dent County Jail with a $50,000 cash only bond each.

The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is hosting public meetings throughout Missouri to help landowners learn more about the new Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). There will be a meeting on Thursday, September 17^th at the Rolla USDA Service Center beginning at 6:00 pm and another on Wednesday, September 23^rd at the Houston USDA Service Center beginning at 10:00 am. CSP is a voluntary conservation program designed to encourage agricultural and forestry producers to adopt additional conservation practices and improve, maintain and manage existing ones. Landowners may sign up for CSP on a continuous basis, but the first cutoff for ranking purposes is September 30^th. Any attendee who might have special needs, such as an interpreter or signer is asked to call in Houston at (417) 967-2028 or in Rolla at (573) 364-6202. The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Tuesday, September 8^th at 7:14 am, a total of three firefighters assisted the Salem Memorial District Hospital with a patient in the 100 block of Towers Street. At 9:40 that same morning, a total of four firefighters assisted the Salem ambulance with a patient on Highway 32 East. On Wednesday, September 9^th, a total of eight firefighters responded to the 400 block of McArthur due to a structure fire. Upon arrival the two-story structure was fully involved. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Missouri Fire Marshall’s office. At 12:30 that same morning, six firefighters assisted with a patient and setup a landing zone at the station. Then at 8:43 that evening, ten firefighters responded out to Coroner Gina White with a lift assist. On Saturday, September 12^th at 3:08 am, nine firefighters were paged out to the 300 block of Gibbs Street due to a motor vehicle accident. Firefighters extricated a male patient from the vehicle and assisted the Salem ambulance. On Monday, September 14^th at 10:57 am, seven firefighters responded out to Katie Lane to assist with a patient.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of August. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department served 191 papers consisting of 118 civil papers, 86 criminal papers and seven notices to vacate. The Department also served one felony warrant and nine misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there were seven drug arrests and nine domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued 32 tickets, made four DWI arrests, conducted 78 traffic stops, assisted on two traffic accidents, assisted on six ambulance calls and assisted other agencies 17 times during the month of August. For the month of August, the Sheriff’s Department investigated three burglaries, three thefts, one trespassing or property line dispute, and four property damage reports. The Department spent 217 hours working in court and 9.75 hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 153 calls during the month and made two community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for August, there were 51 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 17. There were two transfers to the Department of Corrections and two transfers to or from other departments, and three transfers to a mental facility. During the month, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 18,514 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers defeated Bourbon Tuesday by the score of 9-7 and improved their record to 2-6 overall. There was no JV game. The Lady Tigers will travel to Steelville tomorrow at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost to West Plains on Monday, winning game one 25-20, then losing the next two games, 25-21 and 25-18. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will host Licking Thursday night and you can hear the varsity match starting at about 7:00 on KSMO Radio.

Dan Uggla's two-run home run was the difference as the Florida Marlins continued their push for a playoff spot a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second of three games at Busch Stadium. Albert Pujols drove in the lone run while Adam Wainwright (18-8) was tagged with the loss for giving up two runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts over seven innings for the Cardinals, who have dropped four of their last five games. Wainwright had a six-decision winning streak broken. St. Louis holds a comfortable 8 1/2 game lead over Chicago, which crushed Milwaukee on Tuesday, for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals' magic number remains at 10 to win the division. The Cards and Marlins will play today at 12:55 on KSMO Radio.

Alberto Callaspo, Miguel Olivo and David DeJesus each hit a three-run homer, leading the Kansas City Royals in an 11-1 rout of the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Callaspo added a sacrifice fly, as the Royals won for the seventh time in eight games. Robinson Tejeda (3-1) made his third start of the season and allowed just one run on two hits and four walks in five strong innings. Olivo extended his career-high to 20 home runs, DeJesus set a new career-high with his 13th homer, and all of Callaspo's 10 career longballs have come this season. Willie Bloomquist finished 3-5 with two runs scored as Kansas City and Detroit play again tonight.

Paul Kariya and Chris Porter scored first period goals to lead the St. Louis Blues past the Minnesota Wild in preseason action last night, 3-1. Derek Armstrong also scored for St. Louis. Chris Mason stopped 10 shots for the Blues while Ben Bishop blocked 23 more for the Blues.

The St. Louis Blues exercised the contract option on head coach Andy Murray on Tuesday, keeping him behind the bench through 2010-11.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed wide receiver Bobby Wade and waived linebacker Turk McBride.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Norris of Salem, age 67, will be held today at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Funeral services for William “Bill” L. Dalton of Salem, age 91, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Mary B. Basford of St. James, age 87, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
