The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a disturbance, and damage to private property. On Tuesday, September 6th at 12:35 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 1200 block of East Second in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 45-year old Salem male had assaulted a 44-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Then at 2:00 the same morning, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of East Third in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. That afternoon at 2:40, an officer was sent to an apartment on Odom Drive in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown broke out the back glass of a 2001 Ford Mustang valued at $500.00. Later that night at 8:25, an officer was detailed to the Ranch Motel on Highway 32 West in reference to property damage. The Investigation of the report revealed that a 26-year old Salem male did $600 damage to an apartment door and window. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. Anyone with any information regarding the damage to broken back glass on the Mustang, which is still under investigation, should contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 8:05 Tuesday evening in Texas County on Route C about three and a half miles North of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1988 Ford F150 truck driven by 21-year old Mickey Arvin of Licking was towing a mobile home and had the roadway partly blocked when a 1984 Chevrolet truck driven by 69-year old Thomas McCullum of Licking struck the mobile home from behind. McCullum suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by A1 Towing of Houston. The Ford sustained no damage and was driven from the scene.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agendas and substitute list, there will be program evaluations for safety, transportation and the co/extra curricular activities. Following communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will give a budget update, discuss the Dent County One-Ton Weight Loss Challenge, review a 5-year planning committee update and the goals for the 2011/2012 school year. In new business there will be a presentation on the CIA/PLC leadership teams and bus route approvals. The Board will then adjourn and go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

On Saturday, October 1^st the South Central Missouri Literacy Council will host its first annual adult Team Spelling Bee Fundraiser at The Centre in Rolla from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Teams of four will compete to spell correctly words that the emcee will pronounce and define. Teams will have 30 seconds to collaborate and the team captain will write the word. Proctors at each table will check the spelling and record a point for the team if the word is spelled correctly. Three rounds with 20 words per round will be played to determine the winning team. First place winners will receive trophies for each member and gift certificates for each member. Second and third place runners up will receive gift certificates. The registration fee of $80 per team will be used to support the services provided by Rolla Adult Education and Literacy. Rolla AEL provides free G.E.D. classes, literacy tutors, ESL classes, and employability skills instruction to adults age 17 and older in the area. Classes are held in Rolla at the Missouri Career Center during the day and at PCRMC at night. St. James classes are located at the Mel Carnahan Center during the day. Classes are held in Cuba and Steelville at night. Salem offers both day and evening classes in the city hall basement. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will go for their sixth straight win this afternoon at Steelville against the Lady Cardinals starting at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be looking for their first win of the year as they host the Licking Wildcats tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV game followed by the varsity contest. You can hear the varsity match on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.

Yadier Molina hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to propel the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Edwin Jackson (5-2) went 6 2/3 innings in the victory, allowing two runs on eight hits. He struck out five and did not issue a walk. Allen Craig had the other RBI for the Cardinals. The Red Birds have won seven of their last eight games, but did not cut into Atlanta's lead in the wild card standings. The Braves still own a 4 1/2-game advantage. The Cardinals have the day off today and will begin a four game series against Philadelphia tomorrow evening at 5:30. You can hear the start of the game on KSMO and the 7^th inning on after Salem Tiger Football Friday night.

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to help Kansas City sweep a two-game set against Minnesota with a 7-3 win. Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Johnny Giavotella drove in two runs for the Royals, who tied their season high with their fourth straight win. Luke Hochevar (11-11) went six innings in the win, giving up two runs on five hits. Greg Holland came on to pitch for the Royals in the ninth and got his third save of the season. The Royals will host the Chicago White Sox in a four game series starting tonight.

Funeral services for Gary Lee Carroll Sr. of St. James, age 59, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Kutis Funeral Home in St. Louis. Visitations will be held tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla and on Friday from 11:00 until time of service at the Kutis Funeral Home in St. Louis. Interment will be in the St. Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis.

Funeral services for Virginia R. Wilson of Salem, age 58, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Sharon Gail Cook of Salem, age 70, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dry Fork Cemetery.

Funeral services for Henry W. Keel, Sr. of Salem, age 59, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
