The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 241, 249, 541, 542, 549, 642 and 643A. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 411, 418 and 604. The rest of the District 1 crew would be patching various chip and seal roads throughout the district. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the Stone Hill area and in the White River Trace area on Dent County Roads 254 and 257. Tune also said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 333 and brush would be cut on the chip and seal roads around town. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he was going to attending the MRPC meeting Thursday in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley presented to the Commission for approval, the 2007 Drug Court Fund budget. Commissioner Simpson made the motion to approve, Commissioner Tune seconded the motion and all agreed. Curley also received a letter from Reynolds County informing the Commission about a November 19
th hearing that will be held at the Reynolds County Courthouse to discuss the Community Development Block Grant for the Bunker Fire Station. Two commissioners, Skiles and Simpson, both had to leave the meeting early to help with Beef Days that is held every year at the Commons for all Dent County third graders. Beef Days allows students the chance to learn more about agriculture and where the meat they eat comes from. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released their reports involving disturbances, identity theft and a shoplifter. On August 30th at 8:07 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 1400 block of South Water in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court upon his release. On August 31st at 9:13 in the evening, an officer was sent to Henderson and Eighth in reference to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct, damage to private property and 2nd degree trespassing. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct and 2nd degree trespassing. Both were issues summons to appear in court and released. On September 5th at 10:17 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of Highway 32 East in reference to a domestic disturbance. The report led to the arrest of an 87-year old Salem male in violation of an ex-parte violation. He was released pending the application of a warrant. Later that afternoon at 1:15, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an identity theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown used the identity of a 32-year old Salem female to open a telephone account. Charges had accrued to $182.50. On September 9th at 9:59 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for stealing an alcoholic beverage valued at $17.37 and a minor in possession of intoxicants. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Football Tigers will host the Owensville Dutchmen tonight at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 0-2 record while the Dutchmen are 1-1. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Potosi today at 4:30 before playing in the St. James Tournament tomorrow.
David Ross hit a two-run home run and Aaron Harang pitched seven strong innings as the Cincinnati Reds completed a three- game sweep of the struggling St. Louis Cardinals with a 5-4 victory at Great American Ball Park. Harang (15-4) continued his impressive 2007 season, giving up just three hits and three runs, while Joey Votto went 3-for-4 with a two-run double for the Reds, who have won five of six to move three games behind the Cardinals for third place in the NL Central. Albert Pujols had a pair of sacrifice flies and David Eckstein went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Cardinals, who went winless during a seven-game road trip and fell five games off the NL Central lead. St. Louis starter Kip Wells (6-17) was tagged for five runs on 10 hits and six walks over 4 2/3 innings. The Cards face the Chicago Cubs in a make or break four-game series starting tonight. The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday and will face the Cleveland Indians over the weekend.
The Missouri Tigers will host Western Michigan tomorrow at 1:00 with the pre-game show beginning at noon. KSMO will join the game in progress after Cardinal baseball.
The St. Louis Rams will host San Francisco Sunday at noon while the Kansas City Chiefs will be in Chicago to face the Bears at 3:15.
The St. Louis Rams placed offensive tackle Orlando Pace on injured reserve Wednesday, ending his season. Pace suffered a torn labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder with just under two minutes to play in the first half of the Rams' 27-13 loss to Carolina on Sunday. This is the second straight season that Pace has had his season cut short due to injury.

Funeral services for Cecil H. Conway of Salem, age 85, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Ronald L. Schefer of Salem, age 60, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ronald L. Schafer Memorial Fund.
Graveside services for Sherman Roy Roberts of Paris, TN, formeraly of Salem, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mission Fund at the First Methodist Church in Paris, TN.
Funeral services for Lois J. Beiersdorf of St. James, age 93, are imcomplete at this time. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
