The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. During review of the Commission minutes of Monday, September 9th, the Commissioners wanted to make sure the public is aware that the lot east of the Judicial Building is now available for parking. They also pointed out the excellent job the District 1 and District 2 crews did preparing the surface and adding the white rock. Commissioner Larson noted that the lot would be rolled when time permits.  In the road reports District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 5610 and 2460, brush was being cut on County Roads 2460 and 5015, and that materials were being hauled to county roads 5680 and 5610. Purcell went on to say that two trucks were hauling brown rock and that chip and seal patching was being done with cold mix on County Road 6150. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was being done on Dent County Road 5240, that brush was being cut on county roads 2530, 2550 and 5260.  Larson added that materials were being added to county road 2530 and that one man was hauling brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the SACBA Board Meeting Monday afternoon and the Community Betterment Judges visit and tour on Tuesday. Skiles noted that he attended the Meramec Region Enhancement Committee meeting Tuesday evening and the Committee approved the 2014 Missouri Housing Trust Fund Grant for housing improvement and upgrades. Skiles went on to say that he would be attending the MRPC External Relations Committee Meeting and the MRPC Board Meeting Thursday evening.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley had nothing to report. George LaJoie was by to invite the Commissioners to Air Evac 10th Anniversary Celebration from 11 am until 1 pm Friday November 22nd at the Dent County Fire Protection District. Jenni Jones, MoDOT Senior Transportation Planner, was in for the presentation by Bob Chambers, Professional Engineer, of CFS Engineering Services from Kansas City. Chambers presentation was relative to the low water bridge project on Dent County Road 3210. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday at 9:00 at the Courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released more reports. On Tuesday, August 27th at 8:27 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 51-year old Salem female who had two active arrest warrants from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrants at the Salem Police Department and later released with a court date after posting bond. On Friday, August 30th at 12:36 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took property valued at $635. Later that afternoon at 3:54, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem male on an active fugitive arrest warrant from the City of Rolla. He was taken into custody and later released after posting bond. On Saturday, August 31st at 4:01 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to the Sonic Drive In on Highway 32 in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took eighty dollars cash from the store safe. Later that night at 7:36, a 32-year old Sullivan female was transported to the Rolla Stress Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. Then that night at 10:18, an officer responded to a residence in the 300 block of East Center in reference to a disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 34-year old male and a 32-year old female, both of Salem, had been involved in an altercation.  He was arrested for domestic assault, incarcerated on a 12-hour hold, and issued summons to appear in court. Anyone with any info regarding the theft reports is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Cuba Softball Lady Wildcats banged out ten hits including five in the first inning when they scored three times, to beat the Salem Lady Tigers by the score of 6-4. Taylor Frizzell and Cheyenne Sercl each had two hits and an RBI for Salem as they fall to 5-5 on the year. The Lady Tigers will play in the Potosi Tournament this weekend.

The Salem Tiger Football team will be in Owensville tonight to play the Dutchmen at 7:00. Salem is 2-0 on the year and you can hear the game, starting with Tiger Talk with Coach Brian McNamee at 6:30 on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com, and on a delayed basis on Fidelity Local 6

The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team lost to Owensville in two straight sets on Thursday. Salem is now 0-4 on the year and they will play in the West Plains Tournament on Saturday.

Sean Halton smacked a two-run homer and drove in three in the Milwaukee Brewers' 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Joe Kelly (8-4) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over five frames for the Cardinals, who are tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates atop the NL Central Division. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners tonight and you can hear it on KSMO following the Salem game.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will start a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers tonight at 6:08 at Comerica Park. The Royals are 77-69 on the year and are 2½ games back from the final Wild Card spot.

The St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs will be back in action this Sunday at noon. The Rams will be in Atlanta to face the Falcons and the Chiefs will host the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams are 1-0 on the year.

Funeral services for Cecile Marjory “Pat” Lewis of Lees Summit, Missouri, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery with full military honors.

Funeral services for Ella “Annette” Fenley of St. James, age 74, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Interment will be held privately at the Houf family farm. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Larry White of Salem, age 75, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Animal Shelter or the Salem United Methodist Church.

A visitation memorial service for Myrtle Lucille (Stites) Price, age 71, will be this Saturday in Springfield at the Green Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mildred Marie Watson of Salem, age 85, will be Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the service time at 1:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Watson Family.
