The Salem Police Department released several reports. On Tuesday, August 28th at 11:29 at night, officers of the Salem Police Department along with officers of the Dent County Sheriffs Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of South Macarthur. Results of the search led to the arrest of a 28-year old female and a 24-year old male, both of Salem, for distribution of a controlled substance near a school and endangering the welfare of a child. They were incarcerated pending applications for warrants. Also arrested was a 35-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Friday, August 31st at 11:32 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. The investigation revealed that someone unknown used a stolen check to purchase merchandise valued at $42.36. On Saturday, September 1st at 2:16 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 50-year old Salem male for possession of opium. He was released pending the application for warrants. Later that night at 11:36, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West Franklin in reference to a disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 32-year old Salem male was being violent and breaking property at a residence. He was arrested for property damage and disorderly conduct, issued a summons to appear in court, and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Sunday, September 2nd at 2:52 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 22-year old Salem male, for driving while suspended. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the forgery report, which is still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The current drought is forcing beef producers to make tough decisions on their farms and ranches, so an Ozark Drought Management program will be held today that can help producers learn about management strategies that will assist them in feeding and managing beef cattle through the winter on limited feed resources. The Ozark Drought Management Program and will begin with a field day at Martin Cattle Company near Anutt at 3:30 pm, where they will explain and demonstrate options for the use of corn stover and other low quality feeds for wintering beef cows, talk about least cost supplementation strategies for beef cows, and discuss other pertinent feeding and nutrition programs for beef producers facing drought conditions. Following the field day, an evening program will be held at Victor Baptist Church in Anutt. The program will begin with a meal at 6:00 pm, followed by speakers that evening on various drought related topics. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is requesting nominations to honor businesses and individuals at the 2012 Awards Dinner. The banquet will be held on Thursday, November 1st at The Gathering Place of the Grace Community Church located at 600 South Water Street beginning at 6:00 pm. This year the Chamber Board decided to only hold a dinner to recognize and honor award nominees and recipients. Awards will be given in 6 categories: Business of the Year with 0-10 employees, Business of the Year with 11-25 employees, Business of the Year with 26-50 employees, Business of the Year with over 50 employees, Non-Profit Organization of the Year and the Customer Service Award (employee of a Chamber of Commerce member). Businesses, organizations and/or individuals have to be a current chamber member and/or an employee of a chamber business. Criteria and eligibility and nomination forms for these awards can be picked up at the Chamber Office located at 200 South Main Street or requested from chamber@salemmo.com. The Salem Lady Tiger softball and volleyball teams will be back in action today. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will play at Licking at 6:00. The Lady Softball Tigers will host Steelville at 4:30. You’ll be able to hear the softball game on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com and can be seen on a delayed basis on Fidelity Local Channel 6.

Yasmani Grandal drove in the winning run in the sixth inning as the San Diego Padres capped a sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-2 win on Wednesday. Matt Carpenter hit a two-run home run for the Cardinals, who have dropped six of their last seven games. Kyle Lohse (14-3) suffered his first loss since June 15 as he gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits over six innings. St. Louis will start a four-game series tonight with the L.A. Dodgers, who trail the Cardinals by one game for the final wild card spot in the National League. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 8:35.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that the club has extended their affiliation with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. The new deal keeps Memphis in the fold for two more years, through the 2014 season. The Cardinals and Memphis first became affiliated in 1998 when the Redbirds began play in the Pacific Coast League.

Billy Butler had three hits and three RBI as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins, 10-5, in the middle test of a three-game series at Target Field. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez added two RBI apiece for the Royals, who have won three straight and four of their last five. Luke Hochevar (8-13) earned the win despite allowing five runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. The victory was his first since July 31, snapping a streak of seven straight starts without a victory. The Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins will finish up their series tonight.

Memorial services for Anna Louise Engledow of Salem, age 80, will be held today at 12:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for William Guy Fowler of Fenton, age 78, will be Sunday at 2:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.  Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton and Sunday from 12:00 until service time.  Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

Funeral services for Jim Asher of East End, age 68, will be held Wednesday, September 19th at 1:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 18th from 4:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 6:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Bonita Sue Westphal of Newburg, age 72, are incomplete at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

A Private Memorial service for Mary Lou Haase of Salem, age 77, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
