The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4210, 5630, 5650, 6450, 6455 and 6520. Purcell stated that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 2400. Purcell said that the brakes were being replaced on Dent County Dump Truck #115 and that welding was being done on the bed of Dump Truck #117. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2090, 4030 and 5260. He said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2240, and that materials were being hauled to Dent County Road 2070. Larson stated that a man was heading to Springfield to get oil for the Dura-Patcher for chip and seal repair. He went on to say that a brush cutter is also in the shop for repairs as a belt broke. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles said that he attended the MRPC meeting on Thursday night and also attended an External Relations Committee meeting Thursday where they finalized plans for the annual MRPC dinner to honor volunteers. The dinner this year will be held in Vienna at the Knights of Columbus Hall on November 10^th. He also reported that the sales tax revenues received in September were $4,000 more than for September of 2010. With these totals, the sales tax revenue for the year is now $324.05 less this year than last year. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of August. During the month, they wrote one equipment repair order, 16 summons to appear in court, nine warning tickets, and 15 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated nine accidents, five assaults, eight burglaries, two reports of domestic assaults, four reports of domestic violence, two reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of harassment, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. The department also investigated three reports of a lost or stolen plate, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants, one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, nine reports of property damage, 22 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, one report of a violation of a full order of protection and one 96-hour hold commitment. They also investigated one report of possession of marijuana. The police department received 1,923 calls for service during the month, handled 154 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 96 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 10 hours in court testifying, and three hours as court bailiff. The calls in August included 48 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, one call for a prowler, five calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, one intoxicated pedestrian call, 10 calls for domestic disputes, and two calls for a wrecker. Calls for August also included 12 911 calls, seven calls for alarms sounding, seven calls for fights in progress, and eight ambulance assist calls.  The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,481 miles and arrested 15 males and 6 females during the month of August.

The Dent County Fire Protection District held their monthly meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, bills were reviewed, checks were signed and it was noted that the 2011 budget is in the works. During the calendar review, it was noted that on Sunday, September 11^th New Harmony Church would provide a morning breakfast for all emergency personnel at the district and Fire Prevention starts in October. In the monthly reimbursement report, there were a total of 23 calls for August with three structure fire calls, one car fire call, seven landing zones were created, there were three first responders calls, three motor vehicle calls, two hazmat calls, one search and rescue call, one other call and there was one call for a meeting and one for training. In old business, bids for propane and waste oil were tabled, awaiting bids. In new business, the Chief’s yearly evaluation forms will be emailed out to the Board. Chief Brad Nash presented pricing for tile and carpet to complete the training room, dining room and kitchen, along with the office area. The Board decided to hold off until later. The Board then set their next meeting for Tuesday, October 4^th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers won their 4^th straight game as they walloped the Thayer Lady Bobcats by the final score of 15-1 in five innings. The Lady Tigers are 1-2 in the SCA and 7-4 on the year. Mackenzie Wulff continued her hot hitting and now has an 11-game hitting streak going back to the first game of the year. The JV Lady Tigers also beat the Lady Bobcats by the score of 7-4 in three innings. The Lady Tigers will be at Bourbon today to face the Lady War Hawks starting at 4:30. 

The Salem Volleyball Tigers lost to West Plains last night in two straight games. The Lady Tigers will host Licking Thursday night starting at 6:00 with the JV contest.

The Salem Tiger Benchwarmers will be meeting tonight in the William Lynch Conference Room beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting is for any parent of a girl or boys basketball player in grades 7 thru 12. For more info, contact Lisa Arzt at 247-1734 or Kristy Crocker at 729-6611.

Pedro Ciriaco hit a two-run double in a three-run eighth inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates survived a shaky ninth to take a 6-5 win over St. Louis in the opener of a three-game set at PNC Park. Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer and drove in three for the Cardinals, who had a five-game winning streak stopped. Kyle Lohse went six innings in the start and was charged with three runs on eight hits. The Cards and Pirates will play again tonight at 5:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Royals had the day off yesterday and will start a three game series with the Minnesota Twins tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

Graveside services for Evelyn Marie Stuck of Rolla, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 11:30 at the Lake Spring Cemetery in Lake Springs. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Lake Spring Cemetery.

Funeral services for Virginia R. Wilson of Salem, age 58, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
