An accident occurred at 4:24 Friday afternoon in Dent County on County Road 6160 about three miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Nissan Titan driven by 16-year old Savhanna Jadwin of Salem, met an oncoming vehicle at the top of the hill. Jadwin overcorrected to the right side of the road, ran off the roadway, overcorrected again, ran off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree. Jadwin and an occupant, 16-year old Bailey Barnes of Salem, suffered minor injuries and were transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by a private vehicle. They were both wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Nissan Titan sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving disorderly conducts, mental commitment order, break in, and burglary. On Thursday, September 2nd at 9:15 in the morning, an officer transported a 23-year old female of Warrenton to the Center for Psychiatric Services at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, in lieu of a mental commitment order. Later that night at 9:47, an officer was detailed to Fourth and Jackson Streets in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of four persons: a 19-year old female, 23-year old female, 42-year old male, all of Salem, and a 27-year old male of Steelville for disorderly conduct. They were issued summons to appear in court and were released. On September 3rd at approximately 6:11 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Classic Joy Ride Storage Sheds on Craig Drive in reference to a break in. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown cut the lock on a storage unit and took items from it. The report is under investigation. On Friday evening, September 3rd at 6:34, an officer was detailed to Pizza Inn in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 26-year old female of Salem for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Saturday, September 4th at 4:58 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence in the 100 block of South Carty Street and took a cell phone valued at $500.00 and $800.00 in cash. Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding the break-in or burglary, which are still under investigation.

An accident occurred at 2:45 Thursday afternoon in Phelps County on Route D about two miles north of Jerome. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1994 Dodge 350 driven by 54 year-old David Montooth of Salem was rounding a curve, crossed the centerline, went off the left side of the road, struck a sign, overturned, and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment. Montooth and two occupants, 18 year-old Arturo Abherve of Marshfield and 52-year-old Annette Bartlett of Dixon, suffered serious injuries and were transported byambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Another occupant, 57 year-old Ted Bartlett of Dixon, suffered minor injuries and was also transported by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Abherve was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge 350 sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, the commanding officer of Troop I, announces that the Troop I Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will conduct a “brake safety” meeting. This meeting will be held Tuesday, September 14th beginning at 6:30 pm at the Troop I Driver Examination Annex Building. Troop I Headquarters is located approximately one-half mile north of Interstate 44 on Missouri Route E in Rolla. The program is designed to help educate trucking companies, drivers, and mechanics on how to make proper brake adjustments.  A Highway Patrol commercial vehicle enforcement officer will give presentations on the proper adjustment of air brakes and explain how hydraulic brakes function. For additional information about the “Brake safety” meeting, please contact the Troop I Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Office at (573) 368-2345. Individuals attending the meeting should first check-in at the main facility of Troop I.

The Mountain View-Liberty Eagles dominated the Salem Tigers Friday night as they built a 21-0 lead at the half and cruised to a 41-15 win. Salem got touchdowns from Kevin Presley and Brady Floyd as they fall to 1-2 overall and in the SCA. The Tigers will travel to Willow Springs to face the Bears Friday night.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Thayer today starting at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Fields. Salem enters the varsity game with a 2-5 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at West Plains tonight starting at 6;00 with the JV contest with the varsity match to follow.

Henry Josey scored three tochdowns and rushed for 112 yards as Missouri rolled up over 400 yards of offense in defeating McNeese State, 50-6. Blaine Gabbert was 26-32 for 220 yards and one touchdown. Missouri is now 2-0 on the year and will face San Diego State Saturday.

Albert Pujols clubbed two solo home runs to lift St. Louis to a 7-3 win over the Atlanta Braves, as the Cardinals split a four-game set at Turner Field. Brendan Ryan hit a two-run triple while Matt Holliday got on base four times with two singles and two walks. The Cardinals moved to six games back of Cincinnati for first place in the NL Central after the Reds lost to the Pirates on Sunday. Kyle Lohse (3-7) went 5 1/3 innings to get the win, as he gave up two runs on nine hits with a walk and a strikeout. He also went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. The Cardinals start a three game series tonight against the Cubs starting at 6:50 on KSMO Radio.

Andruw Jones' pinch-hit grand slam capped a six-run sixth inning and led the Chicago White Sox over Kansas City, 12-6, in the finale of a three-game series. Billy Butler and Brayan Pena hit three-run shots for the Royals, who have dropped eight of their last 10. Philip Humber (1-1) took the loss after allowing five hits and four runs in 2 1/3 innings while spelling Sean O'Sullivan. The KC starter yielded eight hits and six runs -- five earned -- over three-plus frames. The Royals will host Oakland this afternoon.

Derek Anderson upstaged Sam Bradford's NFL debut as he threw the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter to give Arizona a 17-13 win over St. Louis at Edward Jones Dome. Bradford, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft out of Oklahoma, went 32-for-55 with 253 yards and a score, but threw three interceptions, including one in the final two minutes with St. Louis deep in Arizona territory. Steven Jackson had 22 carries for 81 yards while Mark Clayton had 10 catches for 119 yards for the Rams (0-1), who finished last season with a mark of 1-15 and were 6-42 over the past three seasons.

Funeral services for Marjorie M. Daniels of St. James, age 88, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be it the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church.

Graveside services for Clarice N. Gray of Salem, age 86, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Memorial services for Beulah M. Mead of Salem, age 93, will be held Friday, September 24th at 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Dupont, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to the Columbus Grove, Ohio, Eastern Star Chapter.
