The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, and stolen bikes. On September 4
th at 10:53 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the well house in the City Park in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown damaged the fencing around the well house and took antifreeze and fuel additive. The damage to the fence is valued at $200 and the value of the missing items is $13. On September 5
th at 10:25 in the evening, an officer was sent to the 700 block of East Center in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown damaged the back door to a residence. The damage is valued at $250. On September 7
th at 5:50 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen bicycle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown went on the porch of a residence in the 300 block of West Hunt and took a red Mongoose bicycle valued at $85. On September 8
th at 5:38 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to the theft of a bicycle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a gold Mongoose bicycle valued at $100 from the carport of a residence in the 800 block of East First Street. On September 10
th at 7:00 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Cedar Grove Cemetery in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown turned over five head stones. The value of the damage is unknown at this time. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.
The Missouri Department of Conservation announced that strange spring weather continues to influence the fortunes of Missouri hunters. Archery deer and turkey hunters should be thinking about the April freeze and subsequent floods as they take to the woods. Missouri’s archery deer and turkey season has two segments. The first opens September 15th and runs through November 9th. The second runs from November 21st through January 15th, 2008. Hunters will find it easier to find deer, thanks to the uncommonly severe freeze that occurred statewide in April. With remarkably warm weather in March, turkey hens already had begun laying eggs when the freeze hit. The double whammy of cold and rain however, resulted in a terrible hatch this year for turkeys, and the final blow came when heavy rain plagued re-nesting in June and July.
Captain Randy Becker, Commanding Officer of Troop I Headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Rolla released their reports for the month of July 2007. There were three traffic fatalities during the month and this is the same as July 2006. The total fatalities as of the end of July 2007 are 36 as compared to 27 for the same time period last year. For the entire Troop I area, there were a total of 206 accidents reported with 116 injuries and three fatalities. For the month of July, Crawford County reported that 38 accidents occurred with 19 injuries, Dent County reported that eight accidents occurred with three injuries, and Phelps County reported that 61 accidents occurred with 39 injuries. Two of the fatalities were in Pulaski County and the other was in Maries County during the month of July.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will return to action tonight against the Licking Lady Wildcats starting at 6:00 with the JV game with the varsity match to follow.
The Salem 7th and 8th Grade football teams will be in Rolla today at 5:30 to face the Bulldogs.
Bronson Arroyo pitched six solid innings as the Cincinnati Reds downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-1, in the second of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. Ryan Ludwick drove in the lone run while Anthony Reyes (2-14) was saddled with the loss as he gave up three runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings of work for the Cardinals, who have dropped six straight and sit four games behind Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. The Cards will face the Reds this morning at 11:30 on KSMO.
David DeJesus went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI as Kansas City topped Minnesota, 6-3, in the finale of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Mark Teahen collected three hits including a homer and scored twice for the Royals, who snapped a seven-game losing streak and salvaged a game in the series. Emil Brown added two hits and scored once, while Billy Butler and Ross Gload each drove in a run for Kansas City, which won its 63rd game of the season and officially prevented the possibility of a 100-loss campaign. Gil Meche (8-12) allowed five hits and two runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven with one walk to record his first win since July 20 at Detroit. Meche had been 0-6 with three no-decisions in his last nine starts. The Royals will have the day off today.

Funeral services for Veradean Hagler of Pacific, formerly of Salem, age 83, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00, with an Eastern Star service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
Funeral services for Beverly Ann Hudson of Rolla, age 73, will be Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hudson Family.
