The Salem Police Department released several of their reports. On Thursday, August 22
nd at 6:52 in the evening, an officer responded to Casey's on Highway 32 in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a female driving a white Ford truck pumped $20.03 in fuel and left without paying. On Friday, August 23
rd at 12:07 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 44-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that morning at 7:30, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 16-year old male juvenile had assaulted a 14-year old male of Salem. He was detained and released to his parents. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. That afternoon at 12:17, an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Rolla Road in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone unknown damaged the paint on a black 2013 Dodge Dart. At 4:10 that afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male on two active arrest warrants from the City of Licking. He was taken into custody on the warrants and later released with a date to appear in court after posting bond. At 4:33 that same afternoon, an officer responded to the scene of an accident in the 600 block of East Roosevelt. That investigation led to the arrest of a 43-year old Salem male for driving while drugged. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, August 24
th at 12:16 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to the lobby of the Salem Police Department in reference to a 56-year old female that was drunk and disorderly. Officers responded and requested the female to call for a ride. The female attempted to urinate beside the building then became combative with the officers. She was placed under arrest for assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct. She was then incarcerated on a 12-hour hold and will be issued summonses to appear in court upon her release. Later that evening at 8:37, an officer was detailed to the intersection of Gertrude and Glendale in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 34-year old Salem male had assaulted a 52-year old Salem female. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Sunday, August 25
th at 2:18 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone took a GPS system and straps valued at $118 and $20 cash from a white 2005 Chevrolet truck that was parked on Magnolia Drive. On Monday, August 26
th at 8:00 in the evening, an officer transported a 24-year old Salem female to the Aquinas Treatment Center in Farmington in lieu of a mental commitment order. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage or theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
The Mark Twain National Forest has completed analysis of the proposed Bunker Area Derecho Fuels project, which is located on 22,887 acres of National Forest System land in the southern part of the Salem Ranger District and is in Dent, Reynolds, and Shannon Counties. The purpose of the project is to decrease wild land fire risk to the community of Bunker and surrounding Wild and Urban Interface areas by removing, reducing, and/or rearranging hazardous fuels; to produce accessibility for safe wild land firefighting; and to recover at least a fraction of the economic value of the storm damaged timber in the project area. Under the proposed action, about 22,840 acres of forested areas impacted by the derecho storm will be treated to reduce the amount and continuity of existing fuels. Project activities will include mechanical fuel treatments and prescribed burning. Temporary road, skid trail, and fire-line construction will take place in support of the proposed action. Objections must be filed with the reviewing officer in writing. The Reviewing Officer for the Derecho Fuels project is Bill Nightingale, Mark Twain National Forest Supervisor. Cheyenne Sercl finished 2 for 3 with 4 RBI as the Salem Lady Tiger softball team beat Houston on Tuesday, 17-7. Cortney Putman, Kari Hatridge, and Payton Curley each drove in a pair of runs as Salem moves to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will host Cuba this afternoon at 4:30. The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball team will play at Owensville tonight. The Lady Tigers are 0-3 on the year and the JV contest will start things off at 5:30 with the varsity to follow.
The St. Louis Cardinals rallied for four runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by Matt Adams' two-run homer, to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 on Wednesday. Matt Holliday finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Daniel Descalso drove in a run for the Cardinals, who maintained a one-game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates atop the NL Central standings. Starter Lance Lynn allowed one unearned run on five hits while fanning 10 over six innings. The Cardinals and Brewers will play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40.
Alex Gordon set the tone by homering to lead off the game and James Shields pitched into the ninth inning, as the Kansas City Royals posted a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. Emilio Bonifacio had three hits and scored two runs for the Royals, who are now 2 1/2 games back of Tampa Bay for the second AL wild-card spot. The Royals have the day off today.

Funeral services for Karen S. Rodgers of St. James, age 65, will be held today at 11:00 at the St. James Church of God. Interment will be in the Hughes Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Funeral services for Cecile Marjory “Pat” Lewis of Lees Summit, Missouri, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time on Saturday. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery with full military honors.
Funeral services for Ella “Annette” Fenley of St. James, age 74, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Interment will be held privately at the Houf family farm. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Funeral services for Larry White of Salem, age 75, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Animal Shelter or the Salem United Methodist Church.
A visitation memorial service for Myrtle Lucille (Stites) Price, age 71, will be this Saturday in Springfield at the Green Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mildred Marie Watson of Salem, age 85, will be Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 until the service time at 1:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Watson Family.
