The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On August 29th at 11:45 in the morning, an officer was contacted in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a green 2000 Chevrolet truck and took a GPS map, GPS Chip knives and a yellow dive light. The items were valued at $938. On August 31st at 6:24 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle that was parked at the Salem High School. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a red 2004 Chevrolet truck and took an Apple I-Pod valued at $500 and an Apple FM transmitter valued at $100. Moments later at 6:48, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle parked at the Heartland Metal parking lot. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a vehicle and took a wallet containing $20. On September 4th at 8:34 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of North Henderson in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a silver 1985 Cadillac and took items valued at $30. On September 8th at 7:35 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a wallet from a blue 1992 Dodge truck that was parked in the City Park. The wallet contained $5. Anyone with any information regarding any of these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem High School will be hosting their annual College Night tonight from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Over 40 admission representatives from various colleges, technical schools and military services will be in attendance. These representatives will have the latest information on the admissions process, scholarship and financial aid. All juniors and seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving traffic stops. On August 29th at 9:53 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 32-year old male from Kanopolis, Kansas, for possession of marijuana. He posted bond and was released with a court date. On August 31st, between the hours of 9:30 pm and 12:15 am, officers of the Salem Police Department assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Dent County Sheriff’s Department conducted a driving while intoxicated checkpoint on Highway 19 south. During the checkpoint a total of 334 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint. There were four arrests for alcohol related offences, nine arrests for possession of marijuana, seven arrests for drug paraphernalia, one arrest for a felony possession of drugs, one fugitive arrest and two driving while suspended summons were issued. The Dent County Fire Department assisted maintaining lighting during the checkpoint. On September 5th at 10:55 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem male on a fugitive warrant from Texas County. He posted bond on the warrant and was released with a court date. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Adam Dunn hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the third inning, as the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2, in the opener of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. Reds starter Matt Belisle (8-8) pitched seven strong innings to pick up the win, yielding two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Cincinnati halted a four-game losing streak to St. Louis. David Eckstein and Ryan Ludwick each homered for the slumping Cardinals, who have lost five straight and fell four games behind Milwaukee for the NL Central lead. Mark Mulder (0-2), in his just his second start of the season, was tagged for seven hits and seven runs, five earned, over four innings of work. The Cards and Reds play again tonight at 6:00 on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen had surgery Tuesday on his injured left shoulder. Rolen had the surgery performed in Cincinnati for the removal of scar tissue, a bursectomy and a manipulation of his non-throwing shoulder. He will begin a rehabilitation program and it is anticipated that he will make a complete recovery in time for spring training in 2008.

Scott Baker threw 5 2/3 solid innings and Joe Mauer doubled twice as the Minnesota Twins downed the Kansas City Royals, 6-3, in the second of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Alex Gordon went 4-for-4 with two doubles and David DeJesus and Mark Grudzielanek had two hits apiece for the Royals, who matched a season-high with their seventh straight loss. Kansas City starter Kyle Davies (2-5) went five innings, allowing four runs -- two earned -- on four hits. The Twins and Royals play this afternoon.

Funeral services for Jesse Presser of Warrenton, Mo. age 22, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Westover Cemetery, Steelville.

Funeral services for Veradean Hagler of Pacific, formerly of Salem, age 83, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00, with an Eastern Star service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

Funeral services for Beverly Ann Hudson of Rolla, age 73, will be Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hudson Family.

Funeral services for Robert Cecil Martin of Cherryville, age 78, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Martin Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials are suggested to the Martin Family.
