The Healthy Dent County Board of Directors is pleased to announce the Tiger Trail Kick-Off event to officially open the 1.5 mile hiking/biking trail located at the Salem Upper Elementary School. This trail was made possible by a grant from the Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trail Program, leadership from the Healthy Dent County Board and in-kind donations from several local groups, businesses and organizations to provide upkeep and maintenance for the trail. The trail was built by local contractor Mike Godi of Godi’s Excavating, LLC. This event will be held on Saturday, September 13th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the school located at 1601 Doss Road. Registration will begin at 9:30 am and a ribbon cutting will be held at 10 am. This event is a celebration of the new trail and the Healthy Schools Healthy Communities partnerships between Missouri Foundation for Health, Healthy Dent County, Green Forest R-II, Northwood R-IV, Salem R-80, and University of Missouri Extension. Women of all ages will have a chance to trout fish for free at the Maramec Spring Park on Saturday, September 13th. Fishing will start at 7:30 a.m. and continue until 7:15 p.m. There is no fishing license or daily trout tag required for women during this free event. There will be prize fish stocked into the fishing area. Not only is the event free, but also there is plenty of fishing instruction offered as well. A special area of the spring branch will be roped off for use by women anglers only. Informal instruction will be offered including casting, basic trout fishing tactics and cleaning and cooking your catch. Men are welcome to fish the rest of the park below the women’s fishing area, with the purchase of a daily tag. Bring the whole family to enjoy the day! On Tuesday, September 2nd, a Dent County Deputy traveling on Highway 32 East observed Mr. Donald Slightom, who currently has his license suspended, driving a black pick-up truck. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. This was the second time in two weeks that Mr. Slightom was stopped for driving while having his license suspended. Mr. Slightom was placed under arrest, transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was issued three traffic citations for driving while revoked, failure to register his motor vehicle, and not having insurance. On Wednesday, September 3rd, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff's Office responded to the call in the 3000 block of County Road 6580 for a vehicle theft. The vehicle is described as a green Polaris 425, 6x6, All Terrain Vehicle. Later on the same day at approximately 4 pm, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a report of the fraudulent use of a debit card. The card was fraudulently used several times in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Fraud Department of the Town and Country Bank alerted the account owner to suspicious account activity. The fraudulent usage totaled a loss of $332.26 to the bank itself due to the bank refunding the account holder's lost funds. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing. On Thursday, September 4th, Dent County Deputies responded to a call to a residence located near the 3300 block of Route YY, for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival it was determined that a 59-year old male of Salem, was the victim of a burglary. The victim stated that they had left their residence around 7:30 that morning and arrived home around 11:30 and found some items missing.  The suspect(s) removed a tool bag that contained miscellaneous tools and a gas can from an area near the driveway.  Also, a Stihl chainsaw was removed from a shed located behind the residence. At this time no suspect information was given and the investigation is ongoing.  On September 5th, a Deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of County Road 5080 for a report of a suspicious male walking up and down the road. The male was identified as Mr. Anthony W. Land. The Deputy asked Mr. Land for consent to search his person. Mr. Land gave his consent for the search. While conducting the search of Land’s person, the Deputy found a multi-colored metal smoking device with burnt residue in the “bowl” end. It was a tire gauge that had been altered into a smoking device. Mr. Land was transported to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office where he was issued a summons for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Sunday, September 7th at approximately 8:50 in the morning, a deputy responded to the Shawnee Mac Lake in regards to a pickup submerged in the lake. Upon arrival, the deputy noticed a 4-door, 2013 Ford Pick-up truck submerged approximately 15 yards out into the lake off of the first boat ramp access. After confirming there were no subjects in the vehicle, the pick-up was removed from the lake. The Deputy then ran the VIN number that showed the vehicle was stolen out of Texas County. Information provided is just a mere accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. The evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will play at Cuba this afternoon at 4:30. Salem is 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be playing at Licking tonight. The Lady Tigers are 0-7 on the year and JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to followed.

Alfredo Simon threw seven strong innings and knocked in the go-ahead run with one of his two doubles, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The NL Central-leading Cardinals have lost two in a row on the heels of a 9-1 stretch. Matt Adams and Oscar Taveras both hit RBI base hits in the first inning. The Cardinals and Reds play again today and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 11:00.

James Shields fired seven shutout innings and the Kansas City Royals blanked the Detroit Tigers 3-0 to salvage a three-game set. Shields (14-7) struck out eight, scattered two hits and walked one. Lorenzo Cain was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Josh Willingham and Eric Hosmer each posted two hits and a run scored in the triumph. The Royals will start a four-game series with the Red Sox tonight.

Funeral services for Lenoria J. Davis of Excelsior Springs, age 70, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Albert “Jim” Kell of Cedar Hill and formerly of Salem, age 84, will be held Saturday at noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

Memorial services for Madelyn Florence Bridges of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 1:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
