The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6200 and 6630, while brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5100, 5103 and 5105. He went to say that grading would also be done on Dent County Roads 5460, 6420, and 6640. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that work crews would be cleaning up storm damage on Dent County Roads 4370 and 4380 as well as adding materials to those roads. Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2070 and 3290, and workers would be checking the roads in the Sligo area. Larson also wanted to remind the public that if they see or encounter downed trees on the road on the weekend to please call the Sheriff’s Department at 729-3241 and let them know, and the dispatcher will get a hold of the Commissioners so that road crews can address the problem. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending a Meramec Community Enhancement Board meeting Tuesday in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that candidates that formed committees that are not on the November General Election Ballot need to either terminate their committee or file a report to keep the committee active. She also wanted to remind citizens that the last day to register to vote for the General Election would be October 10th. Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings wanted to remind everyone that a drug “take back” will be held on Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Dent County Sheriff’s Office and also at the Salem Police Department. Expired prescriptions or over the counter drugs, illegal drugs and even needles will be accepted with no questions asked. At the last meeting, the commissioners discussed purchasing two new graders and putting that out for bids. Commissioner Larson voted no as he would like to purchase the graders using the State bid from Erb Equipment and not go out for bids. Commissioners Purcell and Skiles both voted to put out the grader purchase for bid. They also announced that Senator Roy Blunt’s representative would have a listening post at the Courthouse on Tuesday, September 18th from 9:00 to 10:00. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol released their arrest reports for the first week of September. On Thursday, September 6th at 2:00 in the afternoon, 50-year old Ronald Breeding of Salem was arrested in Dent County and charged with a Phelps County warrant for receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor for resisting arrest by fleeing, operating a motor vehicle while suspended for more than one offense, failure to signal when turning and for not wearing a seatbelt. He is being held in the Dent County Jail on no bond. Later at 5:12 that evening, 40-year old Charles Head of Salem was arrested in Crawford County and charged with a DWI and failure to maintain the right half of the roadway resulting in an accident. He was taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital and he is bondable. At 6:18 pm that same evening, 36-year old Timothy Robinson of Salem was arrested in Dent County and charged with a felony for driving while revoked or suspended, felony for tampering with a vehicle vin plate, displaying the possessed license plates of another person and no insurance. He was incarcerated and released. On Friday, September 7th at 9:15 in the evening, 46-year old Johnny Halbrook was arrested in Dent County and charged with a felony for driving while intoxicated, no valid operators and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. He was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold.
The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 4
th at the fire station. After the approval of the agenda they reviewed a financial report, bills were approved and file copies were signed. In the monthly reimbursement report there were 2 calls for structure fires, 2 calls for brush fires, 4 calls for vehicle fires, 3 landing zone calls, 4 first responder calls, 5 motor vehicle accidents, 3 mutual aid calls, 1 transformer call, 1 meeting and 1call for a training session. In old business, a sign usage agreement was presented by Liz Gruendel and adopted for the usage of the new sign in front of the building allowing not-for-profit organizations to use the sign for local events. In new business, the board approved the installation of a video surveillance system for the district with the cost to stay within the budget. In district report, Fire Chief Brad Nash discussed the new generator that is in place and awaiting connection to building power. The generator will power the entire building and will primarily be used for disasters, should they occur. The board then set their next meeting for October 2
nd.

Brady Floyd scored three touchdowns and raced for 135 yards to help lead the Salem Tigers past Owensville by the score of 56-14. Lane Stluka blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown while Austin Rogers, Jesse Dodd and Aaron Hodges all scored for Salem who improved to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA. The Tigers will travel Friday night to Thayer to face the Bobcats in SCA play.
The Salem Lady Tiger softball team lost to Thayer, 6-1, on Monday. Taylor Frizzell had the lone RBI as Salem falls to 7-3 on the year and 2-1 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will host Bourbon today at 5:00.
The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost to West Plains in two sets on Monday. The Lady Tigers lost the first set 25-14 and then 25-6 in the second. Salem will play Licking on Thursday.
Cameron Maybin hit a two-run home run as the San Diego Padres crushed the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Petco Park. Peter Kozma stroked a two-run triple and Allen Craig added an RBI single for the Cardinals, who fell for the fourth time in their last five games. The Cardinals and Padres play again tonight at 8:30 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will be in Minnesota tonight to start a three-game series with the Twins.

Memorial services for Hazel M. Rhodes of Sullivan, age 87, will be tonight at 5:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 4:00 until time of service.
Funeral services for William J. Leath of Rolla, age 62, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Victor Baptist Church in Anutt. Interment will be in the Victor Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Memorial services for Anna Engledow of Salem, age 80, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Jim Asher of East End, age 68, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Bonita Sue Westphal of Newburg, age 72, are incomplete at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
