The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report concerning the death of a five-year old boy. On Tuesday, September 9th at approximately 5:48 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report from the Rolla Central Dispatch regarding an ATV accident involving a five-year old male who was reported injured and unresponsive. While officers were enroute, the Dent County Dispatch made contact with the reporting party and the location was given as a different area and county road number than had been previously given by Rolla Central Dispatch. The incident occurred at a residence off of Dent County Road 3050 and did not involve an ATV accident as first reported. Five-year old Garrett Manthey of Salem, had gone to a pond on the property and when he was gone longer than usual, a family member went to locate him. Garrett was discovered floating in the pond. Manthey was transported by ambulance to Salem Memorial District Hospital and was pronounced dead by Dr. Ford at 7:24 in the evening. Dent County Deputy Coroner Gina White released a report that Manthey’s body was released to the Dent County Memorial Chapel for transporting to the University of Columbia to Dr. Eddie Adelstein in the Pathology Department. The conclusion as to the reason for the death is pending autopsy results.
