The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting. At the meeting, Sheriff Rick Stallings came in and talked with the commission about prisoners and the jail. He said that the county has been averaging about 30 prisoners a day. He said that with the increase in crime, there just is no room to house additional prisoners. He said that he would like to have an open house at the jail so that the public could actually come down and see the conditions in the current county jail. Stallings mentioned that he knows that the county did a feasibility study on a new justice center a couple years back and stated that now that the county owns the property at the corner of Iron and 5
th Street, it would be interesting to see what kind of facility could actually be located there in the future. Stallings is aware and the commission concurred that any new justice center would have to be approved by the voters to be built and maintained. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the commission actually needs to go look at the property and see what it would take to make it a useful gravel parking lot for downtown around the courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams gave the General Revenue sales tax figures for the month of September and the dollar figures were up $34,294.52 over last September’s collections. For the year, General Revenue collections is down $6,768.46 for the first nine months collections for the year. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that ditch work would be done on Dent County Roads 2480 and 5150, patch work would be done in the Bunker and Gladden areas, and brush would be cut on county roads 5015 and 6040. He stated that brown rock would be hauled to the shop, repairs were being made on truck #57 and the repairs to a wheel were being performed on dump truck #115. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4280 and 4290, brush would be cut on county road 3020 and a truck was going for some cold mix to do patching on Dent County Roads 2300 and 3290. Presiding CommissionerSkiles said he would be attending a Meramec Community Enhancement Corportation meeting tonight in St. James. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The 2nd Annual Current River Cobra Rally, organized by Randy League, was held in downtown Salem at the Courthouse Square Saturday morning and raised a total of $748. The money raised was then donated to the Salem High School Marching Band.
The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports. On Wednesday, September 4
th at 1:50 in the afternoon, a deputy spoke to a female that had a complaint about some unauthorized charges on her account. She stated that on July 31
st, United Cash Loan transferred $350 to her Checking account. She stated that she did not apply for the cash from United Cash Loan and that the money was held in her account until September 3
rd. She was then later accessed a $105 transfer fee for the use of the money. The Dent County Sheriff's Office is working with the victim’s bank for leads that would help with the case. On Sunday, September 8
th at 12:31 in the afternoon, a deputy received a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim stated that her black 1997 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen from the parking lot of the Horseshoe Saloon Bar and Grill. The vehicle was last seen September 8
th at about 3:00 in the morning. Mr. Green, the driver of the vehicle, informed deputies that he had drove the vehicle to the Horseshoe Saloon Bar and Grill earlier that evening and left it in the parking lot. Green also stated that he had left his wallet in the vehicle, which contained $110 worth of cash, which was stolen. The victim stated that the Jeep had white Flat Nasty sticker on the windshield and a faded black soft top. At 1:51 that afternoon, a deputy was notified by dispatch that Sheriff Stallings was out at the Horseshoe Saloon Bar and Grill in regards to a separate vehicle that had possibly been tampered with. On arrival, the deputy made contact with Mr. Stanley Ray Nelson, who reported that his 1991 Mercury Sable had been broken into. Nelson stated that there was damage to the ignition switch of the vehicle and that the rear view mirror had been removed from the windshield. Nelson also stated that he found a wallet in the floorboard of the vehicle. This wallet was later identified by Green as his. Green stated that the cash was all that was missing from the wallet. The St. James Lady Tigers took advantage of a series of defensive miscues to score eight runs in the 6th inning and beat the Salem Lady Tigers on Monday, 15-8. Savannah Hanning hit a three-run home run for Salem, who is now 4-4 on the year and will play at Houston today at 4:30.
The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will start three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals are 83-60 on the year and hold a 1½ game lead in the NL Central. You can hear tonight’s game on KSMO at 6:40.
Carlos Santana's seventh-inning homer proved to be the difference as Cleveland nipped Kansas City, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series. Alex Gordon clubbed a two-tun homer in the eighth and Eric Hosmer added an RBI single for the Royals, who lost for just the third time in nine. The Royals and Indians play again tonight.
The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at Eminence starting at 6:00 tonight. The Lady Tigers are 0-2 on the year.

Funeral services for Jim D. Sisco of Salem, age 72, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Relay for Life.
Funeral services for Rachael Dawn Wisdom of Salem, age 26, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
Funeral services for Christine A. Webb of Salem, age 83, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Bus Program.
Funeral services for Karen S. Rodgers of St. James, age 65, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the St. James Church of God. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Hughes Cemetery.
Funeral services for Cecile Marjory “Pat” Lewis of Lees Summit, Missouri, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time on Saturday. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery with full military honors.
A visitation memorial service for Myrtle Lucille (Stites) Price, age 71, will be this Saturday in Springfield at the Green Lawn Funeral Home.
