The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of August. During the month, they wrote three equipment repair orders, 29 summons to appear in court, 10 warning tickets, and 26 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 17 accidents, seven assaults, one burglary, eight reports of disorderly conduct, four reports of domestic violence, four reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of driving while revoked, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of indecent exposure, two reports of leaving the scene of an accident and one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants. The department also investigated one report for an open container, one report of a peace disturbance, one probation violation, seven reports of property damage, one report of resisting and/or interfering with arrest, 17 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, one report of theft and/or stealing any controlled substance, three reports of trespassing, one violation of an exparte and/or full order of protection and three 96-hour commitments. They also investigated one report of distribution of a controlled substance, one report of possession of amphetamine, two reports of possession of marijuana, two reports of possession of opium or derivative and two reports of drug paraphernalia. The police department received 1,894 calls for service during the month, handled 145 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 77 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 20 hours in court testifying, and nine hours as court bailiff. The calls in August included 43 calls for escorts, five calls for an intoxicated driver, four calls for a prowler, three calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, one intoxicated pedestrian call, 11 calls for domestic disputes, and nine calls for a wrecker. There were two 911 calls, two calls for a peace disturbance, six calls for alarms sounding, five calls for fights in progress, nine ambulance assist calls, and two fire calls. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,928 miles and arrested 23 males and 10 females during the month of August.
An accident occurred at 4:45 Friday afternoon in Crawford County on Arlie Barr Road about four miles north of Viburnum. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by 32-year old Sarah Asher of Boss failed to negotiate a curve when she traveled off the left side of the roadway, over steered, ran off the right side of the roadway, over steered again, and overturned as the vehicle returned to the roadway. Suffering minor injuries was Asher and two occupants of Boss, 8-year old Denver Asher 14-year old Phylicia Tinker. They were all taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Iron County Ambulance. The Ford Explorer was totaled and removed from the scene by Blackie’s Auto of Viburnum.
An accident occurred at 7:58 Sunday night in Phelps County on 18th Street in Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, 22-year old Jacob Robinette of Jefferson City suffered a seizure while driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep then crossed the center portion of the roadway and sideswiped a 2008 Chevrolet Impala (Rolla Police vehicle) driven by 23-year old Kevin Ziegler of St. James. The Jeep then traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree, and then came to a rest. Robinette suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Medical Center in Rolla by ambulance. They were both wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing. The Chevrolet sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The Salem Tiger football game with Owensville Friday night was postponed due to storms and has been rescheduled for tonight at 6:00. Salem is 2-0 on the year and the game can be heard on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com and seen on fidelitylocal6.com.
The Potosi Softball Tournament that the Lady Tigers were to play in this Saturday was postponed due to wet grounds and has been rescheduled for this Saturday at Potosi.
The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball and softball teams will be back in action today. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will play at West Plains tonight. The JV will start at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. The Lady Softball Tigers will host Thayer this afternoon at 4:30.
Allen Craig's game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a three-game set. Matt Holiday and Carlos Beltran each hit a home run for St. Louis, which snapped its three-game losing streak. The Cardinals will be in San Diego tonight to start a three-game series with the Padres at 8:30 on KSMO Radio.
Mike Moustakas drove in the game's first run in the top of the 10th inning and Jeff Francoeur added an RBI single that proved to be the difference, as the Kansas City Royals held on for a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox in the rubber match of a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field. Kelvin Herrera (3-2) picked up the win after getting Alex Rios to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the ninth. The Royals have the day off today.
Aaron Murray completed 22-of-35 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns, as the seventh-ranked Georgia Bulldogs held off the Missouri Tigers, 41-20. James Franklin connected on 25-of-41 passes for 269 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Tigers (1-1, 0-1), who played their first-ever SEC game. Marcus Lucas and L'Damian Washington each caught a touchdown pass. Missouri will host Arizona State on Saturday.
Matthew Stafford struggled for much of the game, but he shined when it counted as his 5-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds to play led the Detroit Lions to a 27-23 win over the St. Louis Rams in the opener at Ford Field. Sam Bradford had an efficient game as he went 17-for-25 with 198 yards and a score while Brandon Gibson finished the game with four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (0-1), who went 2-14 last year and have now lost eight straight. The Rams will host the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
Matt Ryan threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score to lead the Atlanta Falcons to a 40-24 thumping of the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. After a strong first half, Matt Cassel finished 21-of-33 for 258 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Dexter McCluster caught six passes for 82 yards and Kevin Boss caught two passes for 36 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown reception for the Chiefs (0-1), who finished 7-9 in 2011. The Chiefs will be in Buffalo Sunday to face the Bills.

Funeral services for Jodi Fay Head of Salem, age 22, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the mortuary for funeral expenses.
Memorial services for Hazel M. Rhodes of Sullivan, age 87, will be Tuesday at 5:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00 to 5:00.
Funeral services for William J. Leath of Rolla, age 62, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Victor Baptist Church in Anutt. Interment will be in the Victor Baptist Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Memorial services for Anna Engledow of Salem, age 80, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Jim Asher of East End, age 68, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
