The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of August. During the month, they wrote 17 traffic tickets, 20 warning tickets and six equipment repair orders. They served 34 summons to appear in court and six fugitive warrants. The Salem Police Department investigated 21 accidents, five assaults, one domestic assault, and one report of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated 17 reports of stealing, five reports of property damage, two reports of tampering, one burglary, eight reports of disorderly conduct, two reports of forgery, one report of a missing or runaway juvenile, two reports of sexual abuse, one report of a lost or stolen place, one exparte violation, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. They also investigated eight reports of possession of marijuana, one report of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one report of possession of drug hallucinogen. The police received 2,136 calls for service during the month and handled 192 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 66 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent 20 hours in court testifying, and five hours as court bailiff. The calls in August included 30 calls for escorts, 18 9-1-1 calls, 10 intoxicated driver investigation calls, six calls for peace disturbances, 17 ambulance assist calls, three calls for alarms sounding, 11 calls for fights in progress, eight domestic dispute calls, two calls for prowlers, six calls for intoxicated pedestrians, three fire calls and three wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 11,704 miles during the month of August. The Salem Police Department arrested 24 males and 10 females during the month of August.

An accident occurred Thursday night at 11:45 in Reynolds County on Highway 72 about a half mile east of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by 20-year old Cody Baker of Bunker was traveling westbound on Highway 72. Baker slowed due to a deer in the roadway and was struck from behind by a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 driven by 23-year old Michael Mathis of Bunker. Baker suffered moderate injuries and taken by the Reynolds County EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Mathis suffered minor injury and was to seek medical treatment later. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Lumina sustained extensive damage and was left roadside pending removal by the owner. The Chevy S-10 sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.

The Salem Airport Board will hold a meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers. Anyone interested in what is happening at the airport is welcome. The meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in Dent County on Highway HH, less than a mile south of Highway 32 West. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by 26-year old Vada Ayers of Salem was traveling southbound on highway HH. The Dodge Neon hydroplaned, traveling across the centerline. The Dodge then traveled off the left side of the roadway, down an embankment overturning. Ayer suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Neon was totaled in accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem.

Michael York kicked field goals of 40 and 25 yards and added an extra point as the St. Clair Bulldogs defeated the Salem Tigers in a rain soaked contest Friday night, 13-6. Max Ball had a 62-yard run for Salem’s only touchdown as the Tigers could only accumulate 110 yards in total offense. Salem did commit three fumbles and threw an interception in the second half for their second straight game of multiple turnovers. Salem will host Owensville this Friday night at 7:00.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will travel to Thayer today to the Lady Bobcats starting at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host the West Plains Lady Zizzers tonight in non-conference action beginning at 6:00.

Chase Daniel threw five touchdown passes and amassed a career-high 396 total yards, as the Missouri Tigers pulled out a 38-25 road win over the Ole Miss Rebels in a non-conference tilt. Daniel went 31-of-42 passing for Missouri (2-0), and all five of his touchdown passes came on consecutive series. Tony Temple carried 17 times for 123 yards, providing the Tigers with a balanced attack. The Tigers will face Western Michigan next Saturday.

Justin Upton's two-run homer in the seventh ignited a four-run inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks held off the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-5, in the series finale at Chase Field as the Diamondbacks swept the series. Miguel Cairo tripled for the Cardinals, who have dropped three in a row and fell three games behind first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central. Ryan Franklin took the loss for the Cardinals to fall to 4-3 on the year. The Cardinals play a make up game in Chicago today at 2:00 and you can hear it on KSMO Radio.

Alex Rodriguez finished 2-for-5 and homered for the fifth straight game to lead the New York Yankees over Kansas City, 6-3, in the finale of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. The Yankees swept the series from the Royals.  Kansas City reliever Brandon Duckworth (2-5) took the loss, charged with two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Starter Zack Greinke was tagged for six hits and three runs in just 3 2/3 innings in the no-decision. Alex Gordon drove in all three runs for the Royals, who have lost five straight. The Royals will face Minnesota tonight.

Jake Delhomme threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the Carolina Panthers stifled the St. Louis Rams, 27-13, in the season-opener for both clubs. Marc Bulger, who signed a lucrative contract extension this offseason with St. Louis, threw for 167 yards on 22-of-42 passing with a touchdown for the Rams (0-1). The Rams will face San Francisco next Sunday.

Matt Schaub passed for 225 yards with a touchdown as the Houston Texans opened the season with a 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Reliant Stadium. Damon Huard threw for 168 yards on 22-of-33 passing and was intercepted twice for Kansas City (0-1). The Chiefs will face the Chicago Bears next Sunday.

Graveside services for R.E. “Doc” Weaver of Salem, age 80, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Gathering in honor of Doc Weaver will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Memorial District Hospital or the Dent County Animal Shelter. 

Funeral services for Jesse Presesr of Warrenton, Mo. age 22, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Westover Cemetery, Steelville.
