The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the courthouse for their regular meeting. At the meeting, Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax dollars the county received from the state for September. Dent County received $84,036.67 this September and year to date, the county receipts are up $49,945.29, which is about 9%. Compared to last September, there was $40 dollars less collected in 2014 than in 2013. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5110, 5113, 6485 and 6590. He did say that brush would be cut on county roads 4220 and 5450 and two men would be hauling brown rock. Purcell included that a man would be doing some chip and seal patch work before replacing missing county road signs. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2590, 3030, 3040 and 5300, while materials would be added to and grading done on county road 5280. Larson said brush cutting would be done on county road 3245 and men would be working on tractor #6 and truck #65 before heading out. He did state Robertson Contractors have been hauling in dirt forming sides for the new bridge over Dent County Road 3210 and have also brought in large white rock for the creek bed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles indicated he would be attending the MCEC meeting in St. James today and the SACBA judges will be in Salem this Wednesday starting out from the Salem ONCRC at 8:30. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said anyone moving to Dent County from another state or even from another county in Missouri will need to register to vote for the November General Election by October 8th. If you move within the county, you are already registered to vote, but they do need your new address to determine your voting location. She also reported that her office balanced with the Dent County Treasurer’s Office on all accounts. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday at 9:00 and it is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 8:50 Saturday evening in Maries County on Highway C at Highway H two miles north of Highgate. According to the highway patrol report, 33 year-old Travis Geist of Steelville was driving a 1999 Chevrolet truck east when he failed to stop at a stop sign, traveled through the intersection and off the roadway, striking a fence and a tree. The Chevrolet then caught fire and was totaled. Geist was not wearing a safety restraint and he sustained serious injuries. He was flown by Arch to the University Hospital in Columbia. 

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Sunday, August 24th at 5:14 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That afternoon at 12:56, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 600 block of South Elmer in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took a television set valued at $200. That same afternoon at 3:33, an officer was dispatched to the Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that an unidentified driver of a silver vehicle pumped $40 in fuel and left without paying. On Monday, August 25th at 8:25 in the morning, an officer responded to the Walnut Motel located at the junction of Highways 19 and 32 in reference to damage to private property. The investigation revealed that someone pushed in a door on a room causing $250 in damages. Early that afternoon at 12:32, an officer made contact with a 17-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the active warrant and later released with a new court date after posting bond. That night at 11:17, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to a domestic disturbance and a male urinating on a vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct and indecent exposure. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, August 26th at 8:53 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Treatment Center located on North Grand in reference to theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that a 37-year old Joplin male stole a cell phone valued $260 from a vehicle. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Wednesday, August 27th at 1:45 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a cordless drill and battery, valued at $309, from the City Utility and Construction Department. Anyone with any information regarding the theft, theft of fuel, or damage to private property reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers participated in the North County Raiders Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Tigers went 0-3 losing to Viburnum, 16-25 and 19-25; to North County by the scores of 7-25 and 10-25; and Hillsboro, 13-25 and 9-25. The Lady Volleyball Tigers are still looking for their first win.

Shelby Carr threw a complete game two-hit shutout and Camryn Pryor hit a first inning two-run homer as the Salem Tigers beat the St. James Tigers by a score of 6-0. Savannah Hanning added a two-run double in the first inning and Trista Heavin drove in a runnthe 3rd inning as Salem improves to 3-1 on the year. The Lady Tigers will host the Houston Tigers today at 4:30 in their first SCA game of the year. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting a 4:15 with Tiger Talk. The game will be recorded for Fidelity Channel 6 for later playback.

Shelby Miller tossed seven-plus shutout innings as the St. Louis Cardinals kept rolling with a 5-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. The Cardinals have a healthy 4 1/2 game lead atop the NL Central standings thanks to a 9-1 stretch. The Cardinals and Reds play again tonight at 6:10 and KSMO will join it in progress following the Lady Tiger game.

Nick Castellanos hit a two-run double as part of a six-run third inning as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-5, in the opener of a key three-game set. Lorenzo Cain hit an inside-the-park homer in defeat. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.

Funeral services for Roy “Dean” Harmon of Cuba, age 62, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Keysville Cemetery in Keysville.

Memorial services for Glen Eugene Knight of Salem, age 57, will be held Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until service time.  Memorials may be made to the Knight family for funeral expenses.

Memorial services for Joseph “Red” Black of Salem, age 63, will be held Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Lenoria J. Davis of Excelsior Springs, age 70, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Memorial services for Madelyn Florence Bridges of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 1:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
