The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson was not present at the meeting due to a prior commitment. At the meeting, Red Cummings asked if there was anything new on equipping the courthouse with handicapped access to the second and third floors. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles indicated that judges have worked to address the issue by using the current facilities available to accommodate those who are handicapped. Skiles says that the commission has done a study on what it would cost to make the courthouse handicapped accessible, and continue to look for grant money to install an elevator or some other way to correct the problem, but no money is currently available. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 6610 and 6620, that brown rock was going to be hauled and that a worker was going to state surplus to get two tires for the water truck. Presiding Commissioner Skiles gave the District 2 report and said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 3170, 4010, 4380 and 4480 with material also being added to county roads 4380 and 2070. Skiles went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2240 and 2250. Skiles said that he attended the MRPC meeting Thursday night in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she and the dent County Treasurer balanced on all accounts. Commissioner Purcell stated that he attended a Top of the Ozarks RC&D meeting in Houston where there were concerns about the Jack’s Fork Watershed. He also said that there is going to be a study and workshop on possible equestrian trails. For those who need more information, they should contact Rosanna Hernandez at 417-967-0676. Purcell said that there is still Fuel for School grants available on line and the RC&D was considering the creation of a cemetery database. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting it is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving domestic disturbance, property damage, a disturbance, assault and theft. On Friday, August 26th at 2:00 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Center in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 23-year old female of Fenton, on a fugitive warrant from Iron County. She was incarcerated pending extradition. Later that morning at 8:30,an officer was sent to Park Street Tire in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown broke the glass on a vehicle that had been parked on North Warfel. The value of the damage is approximately $250. That afternoon at 4:46, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of East Fourth in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male, on a warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court date. On Saturday, August 27th at 11:45 am, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 19-year old Salem male had assaulted a 15-year old Salem male.  Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, August 28th at 7:22 am, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on South Macarthur in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown driving a red Ford Ranger pumped $51.29 in fuel and left without paying. On Monday, August 29th at 1:52 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Eleventh in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a bicycle valued at $100 from the yard of a residence. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage or theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Kaytlyn Wells two-run single in the 6^th inning opened the path to a 10-run inning as the Salem Tigers beat Cuba, 23-13 in six innings Thursday afternoon at the Salem City Park. Sierra Hagler hit a three-run homer and finished the day 3-5 with 7 RBI, Samantha Parker hit a two-run homer and Courtney Putman also had a homer for Salem. Mackenzie Wulff finished with three hits for Salem who are 4-4 on the year as they will be in the Potosi Tournament this weekend.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers dropped to 0-4 on the year as they lost to Owensville last night in two straight games: 25-18 and 25-12. The JV also lost in two straight games: 25-9 and 25-14; and the freshman team lost in two straight by the identical scores of 25-8. The Lady Tigers will be in the West Plains tournament on Saturday.

The Salem 8^th grade football team lost to Rolla, 12-6 Thursday night. Aaron Hodges had a 52-yard run for the only Salem score. The 7^th and 8^th grade play Mountain Grove next Thursday.

The Salem Varsity Football Team will travel to Mountain View to face the Liberty Eagles starting at 6:25 with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt. Salem is 1-1 on the year.

The Missouri Football Tigers will take on Arizona State tonight starting at about 9:30, right after the Salem game. Missouri is 1-0 on the year.

The Cardinals were off yesterday and host the Atlanta Braves this weekend. The can tonight will not be aired, but you can catch the Saturday game starting at 5:40 on KSMO Radio.

Ichiro Suzuki homered to right field leading off the bottom of the first inning and the Mariners got a two-run shot from Justin Smoak in a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Thursday night. Luke Hochevar (10-11) was charged with six hits and four runs with a season-high nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. The Royals and Mariners play again tonight.

Funeral services for Nelda Chrystell Forbes of Rolla, age 74, will be held Sunday 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Landmark Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Samuel A Ward of Rolla, age 89, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks Tuesday at 11:30 with full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God of Rolla or Gideon’s International.

Funeral services for Bessie Rosewell of Steelville, age 99, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gibbs Care Center Building Fund in Steelville. 

Graveside services for Evelyn Marie Stuck of Rolla, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 11:30 at the Lake Spring Cemetery in Lake Springs. Visitation will Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Lake Spring Cemetery.
