The Dent County Commissioners met on Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting and Dent County Clerk Angie Curley was not present as she is at the annual County Clerk’s Election Authority Training through Wednesday. Buddy Land arrived prior to the meeting and discussed rural addressing with Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles, and then talked about Dent County Road 2550 to Commissioner J.J. Tune and how rough it was. Tune said that the graders would be in that area this week. Austin Mitchell than asked the commission about the procedure in getting a Quit-Claim Deed to release the easement property formerly used by the railroad. He said that his client’s Quit-Claim Deed for the property from 1998 that he had didn’t match up with his property. The commission stated that all they have to do is draw up the deed for the right parcel of land, bring it to the commission and they would sign it. A Quit-Claim Deed means that you relinquish any claim to the property indicated on the deed, and in this case, the county has never had any interest in the railroad easements. In the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson said that a portion of Dent County Road 5110 was partly washed away and will be rebuilt. After that, a number of roads that sustained minor flood damage will be addressed and they are scattered throughout the county. Simpson also said that road crews will check the low water crossing in Bunker as they still had water flowing over them last week. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that some minor flood damage occurred in the Boss and Howes Mill area and work will be done on Dent County Roads 5225 and 5240. He also said that there was road damage from the rains in the Hidden Valley Estates and work will be done on Dent County Roads 4283 and 5260. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2540 and 2550, and materials will be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3180, 4050 and 4060. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles asked the commission to recognize artist David Plank for his fine contributions to our area through his art with a David Plan Recognition Day this Saturday and they agreed unanimously. Plank will be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center this Saturday from 10:00 to noon, and his work will be there from September 9th through the 27th. Skiles wanted to remind the commissioners that Beef Days would be held this Thursday at The Commons. Simpson stated that a South Central Regional Commissioners meeting would be held today at Houston, and that the VFW would be placing flags at the courthouse and hold a celebration on Thursday, September 11th. At the last meeting, Sheriff Bob Wofford discussed with the commissioners a federal grant regarding online fingerprinting. Also attending was Keith Green with the Red Cross asking for possible funding for a generator for the Red Cross shelter. Postmaster Don Culver also came in to discuss rural addressing with the commission. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.
