An accident happened Friday morning at 7:24 in Dent County on Highway 32 about six miles east of Salem that left three youth with injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Jeep driven westbound by 16-year old Caleb Watts of Salem, traveled off the right side of the roadway, then returned to the roadway where the Jeep overturned. Suffering minor injuries were Caleb, 14-year old Nathan Watts and 11-year old Abigail Watts. Nathan and Caleb were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident while Abigail was not. All three Watts children were taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Jeep sustained extensive damages and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened in Phelps County on Route O near Phelps County Road 5460 at 8:15 Saturday morning. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Ford Ranger driven southbound by 50-year old Locia Brookshire of Edgar Springs, traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the road, then traveled off the left side of the roadway before overturning. Brookshire suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 32 about eleven miles east of Salem Saturday afternoon at 12:50. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Mercury Sable driven westbound by 35-year old Dawn Shipman of Ellington, went off the right side of the roadway. Shipman overcorrected and the vehicle went off the left side of the road where it struck a tree. Suffering moderate injuries was eight-year old Harold Shipman of Ellington, the son of the driver, and he was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem ambulance. Suffering minor injuries were Dawn Shipman and another son, six-year old Richard. Dawn refused treatment at the scene while Richard Shipman was not treated. Harold and Richard Shipman were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident while Dawn Shipman was not wearing a seat restraint. The Mercury Sable was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing in Salem.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda during the hearing of persons, Fred Whitaker is requesting the blocking of 4th Street between Highway 19 and Jackson Streets for a music event. The event will be held on May 30, 2015 from 9:00 am until midnight. Also during the hearing of persons, at a previous Board of Alderman meeting, the Board voted to become a Purple Heart City. John Dismer from the Military Order of the Purple Heart Department of Missouri will be there to present the Proclamation declaring the City of Salem as a Purple Heart City. He will also present the City with a plaque honoring it. In bids, the city requested bids for the resurfacing of Carnett Industrial Drive and the parking lot at 400 North Iron Street. Those bids will be presented to the Board. The city requested sealed bids for the resurfacing of the tennis courts at the park, bids for interest rates on a lease/purchase agreement for a Street Sweeper and 2011 Ford 550 4x4 with an Altec Aerial Unit, and bids for the demolition of a house the city owns at 716 East Roosevelt. Those bids will be presented to the Board for consideration. During the reading of Bills and Resolutions, Bill #3280, an ordinance to rezone a number of lots in block H of the Douglas Park addition to the City of Salem from Residential R-3 to Commercial C-1 will be presented. The board would have to approve the bill for the rezoning to create an ordinance. In new and miscellaneous business, WCA is requesting that the week of October 6th through October 10th be set aside as the Fall Clean-Up Week. Also during business, the annual meeting of the Lagers will be held October 30th and 31st at the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel in St. Louis. The City will be sending an employee delegate that is voted on by the employees. The regular meeting of the Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Zayne Kyser scored four touchdowns and a two-point conversion and finished the night with 273 yards rushing as the Salem Tigers improved to 2-1 on the year with a 52-19 win over Houston. Derek McClain returned the opening kickoff 83-yards for a touchdown while Dylan Wisdom and Tristan Dubois also added touchdowns for Salem who will be in Thayer Friday for their first road game of the year. Salem is 1-0 in the SCA.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host St. James today at 4:30 in the home opener at the Salem City Park. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will soon be aired on Fidelity Channel 6.

Adam Wainwright tossed his fourth complete game of the season to lead the St. Louis Cardinals in a 9-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers to cap a four-game series. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Reds tonight at 6:10 and you can hear it on KSMO following the Salem game.

Yordano Ventura and three relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Kansas City Royals topped the New York Yankees on Sunday, 2-0. Eric Hosmer drove in a run for Kansas City, which will head to Detroit for the start of a key three-game series tonight. 

Maty Mauk threw five touchdown passes and rushed for another in the 24th-ranked Missouri Tigers' 49-24 victory over Toledo on Saturday. Missouri will host Central Florida on Saturday.

Cordarrelle Patterson carried the ball three times for 102 yards and a touchdown in the Minnesota Vikings' 34-6 win over St. Louis. The Rams will play the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Ryan Succop kicked four field goals against his former team in Tennessee's 26-10 season-opening victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will play the Broncos on Sunday.

Funeral services for Alma Edgar of St. James, age 93, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the First Baptist Church in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Don White of St. James, age 78, will be at 11:00 this morning at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James. Memorials may be made to the St. James Golden Age Center or the St. James Caring Center.

Funeral services for Roy “Dean” Harmon of Cuba, age 62, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Keysville Cemetery in Keysville.

Memorial services for Glen Eugene Knight of Salem, age 57, will be held Wednesday night at 6:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 until service time at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.  Memorials may be made to the Knight family for funeral expenses.

Memorial services for Joseph “Red” Black of Salem, age 63, will be held Wednesday, September 10th at 6:00 pm at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Memorial services for Madelyn  Florence Bridges of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 1:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
