An accident happened at 11:43 Friday morning in Dent County on Route F about six miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by 60-year old Wallace Whitney of Salem was traveling northbound on Route F. The pickup traveled off the right side of the roadway. Whitney overcorrected causing the pickup to travel off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch. The pickup overturned and came to rest on its top. Whitney suffered moderate injuries and taken by EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet pickup sustained extensive damage and towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department and the Dent County Fire Protection District assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a disturbance, theft from a vehicle and loud music. On September 1^st at 4:53in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the 300 block of North Pershing in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On September 2^nd at 1:15 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that persons unknown took a backpack and contents from a 1998 Ford Taurus parked in the 1100 block of West Highway 32. Further investigation into the matter revealed that a citizen had found the backpack and turned it in. The backpack was returned to the owner. On September 3^rd at 3:55 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of South Oak in reference to loud music. The report led to the arrest of a 58-year old Salem female for peace disturbance. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with information pertaining to the theft from the vehicle, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Highway 49 in Iron County will close for repairs to the Union Pacific Railroad from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10^th until 4 p.m., Thursday, September 11^th. Motorists will have access on Highway 49 up to the rail crossing but will need to seek an alternate route if access is needed beyond that point. Missouri Department of Transportation Maintenance Superintendent Bryan Fortner said traffic could take Highway 21 to Route O and back to Highway 49. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage. On August 29^th at 8:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of North Henderson in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown tore the screen off of a window in the back of the residence. The screen is valued at $75. On September 1^st at 7:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 1700 block of South Maple in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown damaged two mailboxes. The value of the damage is $80. Then at 10:10 the same morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of North Pershing in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown threw eggs and spread peanut butter on three vehicles. The value of the damage is unknown at this time. At 12:30 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem Speed Queen Laundry located at 601 South Main in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown broke the glass out of the front door of the establishment. The glass door is valued at $200. Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that the Salem Driver Examination Station will be closed on Wednesday, September 10^th due to training. Driver examinations will resume as regularly scheduled in Salem on Wednesday, September 24^th.

Derek Freeman scored three touchdowns and rushed for 229 yards to help lead Salem to a 42-14 win over St. Clair Saturday night. Cody Wofford score two touchdowns and Yousef Ibrahim added a score for Salem who fell just shy of 500 yards in offense. Salem is now 1-1 on the year and they will host Cabool Friday.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Varsity and JV Tigers moved to 2-0 on the year with straight set wins over Pacific Thursday night. The varsity won 25-15 and 25-22; and the JV won 25-17 and 25-19. The Lady Tigers will host Eminence tomorrow.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will travel to Mountain Grove today to face the lady Panthers at 4:30.

Chase Daniel was near perfect behind center and Derrick Washington scored three touchdowns as the sixth-ranked Missouri Tigers wiped the floor with the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 52-3. In less than a half of play, Daniel connected on 16-of-17 throws for 245 yards and three touchdowns, and Washington rushed for 67 yards on just eight carries for the Tigers (2-0). Jared Perry had 60 yards receiving and a TD on three catches, while Jerrel Jackson hauled in six balls for 70 yards in the win.

Adam Wainwright threw eight dominant innings and Albert Pujols hit a two-run home run to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 win over Florida in the rubber match of a three-game set. Felipe Lopez went 2-for-3, while Josh Phelps had a run-scoring pinch-hit for St. Louis. The Red Birds are off today.

Cliff Lee picked up his major league-best 21st victory after pitching 7 1/3 effective innings, and helped give the Indians a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the rubber match of a three-game series. Jose Guillen went 2-for-3 and scored the Royals' lone run, and Alberto Callaspo had a hit and an RBI. Mark Teahen added two hits for Kansas City who will be off today.

Rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson made a big splash in his NFL debut, gaining 203 total yards -- 106 yards on six catches and 97 yards on eight punt returns -- and the Philadelphia Eagles ripped the St. Louis Rams 38-3 in the season opener for both clubs.

Randy Moss had six receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown as New England overcame an early injury to quarterback Tom Brady to escape Kansas City, 17-10, in the season-opener for both clubs at Gillette Stadium.
