The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse.  Martin Bell was present to officially invite the Commission and Courthouse personnel to the tree planting and commemorative stone presentation in memory of the late Brenda Bell, Dent County Assessor.  Bell also wanted to review plans for the ceremony, which will be September 20^th at 10:00 am.  Dan Blanner was in to bring the poor condition of Dent County Road 5520 to the Commissioners attention.  Commissioner Purcell stated that he was aware of the problems and that they would be addressed as conditions, weather and circumstances allowed.  Purcell pointed out that a portion of the road is a creek road so that any long term improvements is nearly impossible, but the problems in other areas of county road 5520 will be addressed.  In the road Report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that his road superintendent was cross-training one of the dump truck operators on motor grader operation.  He went on to say that ditch work was being done and materials were being added to County Roads 5150 and 2430 and that brush was being cut on county road 6460.  Purcell added that a man was being sent to get a load of cold mix.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was being done on Dent County Road 4290 and brush was being cut on county road 6460.  He went on to say that a crossover pipe was being installed and materials were being added at the intersection of County Road 2300 and 2305.  Larson wanted to advise motorists to use caution at the intersection since a portion of the chip and seal would be removed for the pipe installation.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles congratulated Todd Kinerk on the successful Timber Day Celebration and thanked him for his hard work to make the event a success.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that her office was continuing to mail the new yellow voter identification cards.  Curley encouraged voters to throw away their old cards and to only mail cards back to her office that needed to have information corrected.  She went on to say that she and Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams balanced on all accounts for August and that the Commissioners needed to review the reports for August of Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock and Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker’s offices, which did balance on all add-ons, monthly collections and abatements.  Curley presented an agreement for review with the City of Salem for $750 in services to be provided to the County.  She also stated that tax rates were coming in and she was waiting on the State Auditors office to certify them.  The Commissioners approved bills.  Randy League stopped by to make sure he had County approval for using the Courthouse lawn for the registration table and PA system during Saturday’s Cobra Rally.  The Commissioners approved the request.  As part of the planning for bridge construction on Dent County Road 3210 the engineering firm of Allgeier, Martin and Associates, Inc. made a presentation at 10:00, followed by the firm of Shafer, Kline and Warren, Inc. at 11:00.  The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Dent County Courthouse and it is open to the public.

An accident occurred September 1^st at 12:00 AM at Highway 19 and Center Street.  According to the Salem Police report, a 2007 Harley Davidson driven by Eric Pierce of Salem was traveling South on 19 approaching Center when Pierce lost control on the gravel, causing Pierce to lay the motorcycle down skidding across Center Street. The Harley Davidson sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Swartz Towing. Pierce sought his own medical attention.

The Public Water Supply District No 1 of Dent County would like to notify their customers who live off of Highway 32 will be experiencing low water pressure Monday, September 9^th through Wednesday, September 11^th as they will be doing maintenance and repairs to the water tower. The Salem Lady Tiger Softball team will host Vienna this afternoon at 4:30. Salem is 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA.

The Salem Tiger football team will be in Salisbury Saturday afternoon to play Plattsburg at 1:30. The Tigers are 1-0 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Todd Frazier hit a pair of solo home runs to give the Cincinnati Reds a 6-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a four-game series. David Freese hit a solo home run for the Cardinals, who have lost six of their last eight games. Lance Lynn (13-10) continued his struggles as he gave up four runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts over five innings of work to take the loss. The right-hander has dropped five of his past six starts. Both teams are chasing idle Pittsburgh for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals dropped to 1 1/2 games back, while the Reds moved to within three games of the lead. St. Louis and Cincinnati occupy the first and second wild card positions. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Pirates tonight at Busch Stadium. You can hear the game on KSMO at 6:40.

Mike Moustakas' solo homer in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted the Kansas City Royals over the Seattle Mariners, 7-6, on Thursday. Alex Gordon added a two-run homer for the Royals, who won three of the four games in this series. Billy Butler went 5-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and Emilio Bonifacio went 4-for-6 with two runs. Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings. Louis Coleman (3-0) recorded the final out in the top of the 13th to pick up the win. The Royals will start a three-game series with the AL Central leading Detroit Tigers tonight at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:10.

The Missouri Tiger football team will host the Toledo Rockets on Saturday in a non-conference clash at 2:30. Missouri is 1-0 on the year and KSMO will join this game in progress following the Salem Tiger football game.

The St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs will kick their seasons off on Sunday. The Rams will host NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals at 3:25 while the Chiefs will be in Jacksonville to play the Jaguars at noon.

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Clark of Salem, age 87, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Morrison Cemetery in Cook Station. Memorials may be made to the Bible Impact Ministries.

Funeral services for Martha Jean Teasley of Springfield, age 71, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church of Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Hughes Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

A Memorial service for Helen Kay Simmons of Salem, age 54, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Pentecostal Church of God.

Funeral services for Jim D. Sisco of Salem, age 72, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Relay for Life.

Funeral services for Christine A. Webb of Salem, age 83, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Cecile Marjory "Pat" Lewis of Lees Summitt, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held at 1:00 Saturday, September 14th at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time on Saturday. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery with full military honors.
