The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After the roll call, bids will be reviewed for an audio/visual recording security system. After approval of the agenda, Director of Public Works & Engineering Bill Huffman will report on work in the city, and Mayor Gary Brown will report on issues concerning the City of Salem. During the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions; Bill #3239, an ordinance amending the code of ordinances of the City of Salem pertaining to sick leave will be addressed. Resolution #12-2011, a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement between the city of Salem and the Salem Telecommunication Resource Center will be presented. The board will then review Resolution #18-2011 and #19-2011, which authorizes the mayor to execute agreements between the city of Salem and the Waste Corporation of Missouri, and the city of Salem with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission. Then Resolution #20-2011 will be read which would allow the city of Salem to enter into a power supply and administration agreement as well as a joint contract with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission, and enter the city as a member of the Mid-Missouri Municipal Power Energy Pool. The final Resolution #21-2011, will adopt the city of Salem Capitalization Policy after being reviewed by the board. The board will also discuss Bill #3240 that would create an ordinance pertaining to the duties of the city’s building commissioner. In new and miscellaneous business, discussions will be held on the upgrading of rates for extensions of utility services to new areas and electric charges, cage fighting, parking on South Jackson Street, and the Community Services Committee’s authority. The board will then go into closed session to discuss personnel. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, theft of fuel, property damage, a disturbance and assault. On Friday, August 19th at 9:20 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a room by force and took a flat panel television valued at $250. At 1:00 that afternoon, an officer was sent to the Casey’s General Store on South Macarthur in reference to theft of fuel. The report revealed that a 24-year old Salem male pumped $24.17 in fuel and left without paying which led to his arrest. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Then at 4:40 that same afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 400 block of East Acuff in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown broke the glass in a storm door of a residence.  The value of the damage is approximately $20. On Saturday, August 20th at 12:24 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to property damage.  That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged a door and frame valued at  $250. At 2:34 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of North Hickory in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 33-year old female of Owensville on a fugitive warrant from St. James. She was released on bond with a date to appear in court. Later that evening at 9:00, an officer was sent to the 1000 block of South Pershing in reference to an assault.  The investigation of the report revealed that a 20-year old Salem male had assaulted a 29-year old Salem male which led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Junior Rictor and Johnny Boyd each scored two touchdowns as the Salem Tigers dominated the Houston Tigers Friday night by the score of 40-6. Salem evened their overall and SCA record at 1-1 as they travel to Mountain View Friday night to face the Liberty Eagles.

In football action Monday afternoon, The Salem JV defeated the Ava Bears by the score of 16-0, while the 9^th grade team lost by the score of 12-6.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Houston this afternoon at 4:30 to face the Tigers. Salem enters the game with a 3-3 overall record, 0-1 in the SCA.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at Eminence this evening at 6:00 to face the Lady Red Wings.

Randy Wolf pitched eight outstanding innings and the Milwaukee Brewers widened their lead in the NL Central to double- digits with a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Westbrook (11-8), who hadn't lost in his previous three starts, gave up nine hits, but had nine strikeouts over six innings. The Cards had only four hits and scored their only run on a double play. The Cards and Brewers play tonight starting at 6:40 on KSMO Radio.

Billy Butler finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI, and Kansas City used a five-run ninth inning to best Oakland, 11-6, in the first of three between the clubs. Eric Hosmer contributed three hits and two RBI with two runs scored for the Royals, who won for the third time in five outings. Jeff Francoeur and Mike Moustakas added two RBI each. Greg Holland (4-1) worked a scoreless eighth for the win. Felipe Paulino started, but was pulled after 4 1/3 innings after allowing four hits and six runs with four walks. The Royals and A’s play tonight.

James Franklin rushed for a touchdown and threw for another score as No. 21 Missouri defeated Miami-Ohio, 17-6, in the season opener for each school. Franklin completed 17-of-26 passes for 129 yards with an interception and added 72 yards on 14 rush attempts. T.J. Moe caught six passes for 56 yards for Missouri (1-0), which is coming off a 10-3 campaign.

Funeral services for Colon “Butch” Moore III of Steelville, age 54, will be held today at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time for the service. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.

Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Leslie Busch of Edgar Springs, age 75, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Miller Cemetery in Lodi, Indiana. Memorials are suggest to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Michael “Mike” Victor Giles of Salem, age 44, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Rector Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Tammy Lynn Bedford of Viburnum, age 30, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sam Crocker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Nelda Chrystell Forbes of Rolla, age 74, will be held Sunday 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Landmark Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Samuel A. Ward of Rolla, age 89, are incomplete. Arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God of Rolla, Gideons International.
