The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that there was minor to moderate flooding in both districts. In District 1, Simpson said that crews would be out assessing roads for damage and the major area of concern would be in the Bunker and Montauk areas. In District 2, Commissioner Tune said that there was some flooding in the Sligo area and there was a report of a tree being lodged in a low water bridge in the Short Bend area. He said that he would be sending a crew out to look at the bridge, but they would probably have to wait till the water receded to remove the tree. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that Ed Hess from MODOT had contacted him and stated that the bridge over the Huzzah Creek in Boss would have the safety rails along the side of the bridge worked on this fall then a team would be down in January to inspect the bridge. Skiles also said that he spoke with Susan Cunningham from Spatial Data Research about where the county is with rural addressing and she told him that it’s now up to the post office to start sending out the address change notices. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote for the November 8^th General Election is October 8^th and if anyone has had an address change to please contact the clerks office. The Clerk’s office also held the statewide recount of the Democratic Attorney General’s race yesterday at 1:00. Shirley Hobson came by the meeting to read a letter from the Young Community Center Board. It is requesting that the polling location be moved from Dent Phelps R-3 to the Young Community Center, which was formerly the Anutt School House. The letter stated that it’s a distraction to the school and a distraction to the poll workers to be at the school. County Clerk Angie Curley said she would get in contact with Ms Hobson so she could go look at the community center. At the previous meeting, Dent County Deputy Collector, Jaquetta Noakes informed the Commission that no one redeemed the 2007 tax sale properties, so the Collector will be issuing collector deeds. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a leave without paying for fuel, counterfeiting, a robbery, assault and a shoplifter. On August 25^th at 3:01 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store at 600 South Macarthur in reference to a leave without pay for fuel. The report revealed person(s) unknown in a white sport utility vehicle pumped $30.02 in fuel and left without paying. On August 26^th at 1:21 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. The report revealed person(s) unknown passed the bill. On August 26^th at 12:00 that afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a robbery. The report revealed an unknown male in his early twenties, fair skin and blue eyes, wearing a baseball cap, white T-shirt and old blue jeans robbed a 52 year-old female of Salem. It was reported that he stopped the victim who was traveling west near the 500 block of Franklin in a motorized wheelchair. He demanded money and when she told him she had none he went through her purse. He then demanded she give him cigarettes and she did. The victim was then able to leave the scene. On August 27^th at 8:10 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Third in reference to a domestic disturbance. The report revealed a 43 year-old Salem male had assaulted a 22 year-old Salem female. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On August 28^th at 10:42 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 45 year-old Walderon, Arkansas male for stealing $27.00 in merchandise. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 11:10 that same morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to an assault. The report revealed a 13 year-old Salem male juvenile had assaulted a teacher. A further investigation led to the detention of the juvenile for assault and disorderly conduct. He was released to his mother and the report will be referred to the juvenile officer. Anyone with information pertaining to the above incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Football Tigers game with St. Clair scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for tomorrow night at 7:00 due to wet grounds. You can hear the game on KSMO tomorrow night starting at 6:30 with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt. Salem is 0-1 on the year.

The Salem Tiger Football Parade will be held NEXT Friday, September 12^th beginning at 6:00 pm since the football game scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for tomorrow night.  For more information, call Stephanie at 247-1441.

The Missouri Tiger Football Team will host Southeast Missouri State tomorrow starting at 6:00 at Faurot Field. Missouri is 1-0 this year.

The St. Louis Cardinals host the Florida Marlins this weekend starting tonight at 6:55 on KSMO.

Joey Gathright's RBI single in the 10th inning led the Kansas City Royals to a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the first game of a doubleheader from Kauffman Stadium David DeJesus went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Billy Butler hit a two-run double for the Royals, who have won three of four. Brian Bannister started the game and gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. Joakim Soria (2-3) got the win for pitching two scoreless innings.

In the second game, Jose Guillen went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored as the Kansas City Royals swept the doubleheader and three-game series against the Oakland Athletics with a 9-6 win. Alberto Callaspo drove in two runs while Mike Aviles went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Royals, who have won four of their last five games. Kyle Davies (6-6) gave up just one run on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings of work. Kansas City hosts Cleveland for a three-game set starting tonight.
