The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, First District Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that workers will be patching chip and seal roads in the county where needed. Workers will also be servicing a grader, and pressure washing and repairing the bed on truck 115. Second District Commissioner Gary Larson reported that the road department workers will be going back to the eight hour days beginning Tuesday where they will work five days a week. He said that his crew would be focusing on Dent County Road 2150 where the workers will be installing five or six pipes before rock is added and the road is graded. He also said that rock will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Road 2140. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he received a letter from the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District that the Department of Natural Resources has changed their grant for the counties to receive their waste tire trailers. Skiles said that the MRPC must now partner with the member counties to receive the grant. The commissioners agreed to partner with the MRPC to get the waste tire trailers. He said that he would be meeting with the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation next Tuesday at the MRPC. Skiles reminded the commission that the courthouse would be closed for Labor Day and the next meeting would be next Thursday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she and FEMA signed off on three project worksheets for work in the county from the May 8^th storm where the county will receive $35,974.96. Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings stopped in to ask the commissioners about looking into a county-wide speed limit on county roads that do not have speed limits posted. He said that drivers are driving way too fast for some of the road conditions. He said that the Sheriff’s Department has been out radaring some of the county roads and have warned numerous motorists who use excessive speed. He said that the county would now be enforcing all posted speed limits and ticket those driving over the speed limit. He also asked the commissioners to check the county road intersections for stop signs and yield signs as many are not marked. The next meeting will be held next Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to expect a change in traffic patterns during the Labor Day weekend.  Many families will plan one last special outing to mark the end of summer. The Labor Day counting period will begin at 6 p.m. tonight and end at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2009. Last year, 9 people were killed and 473 persons were injured in 1,026 traffic crashes occurring during the Labor Day holiday counting period.  The Patrol, along with local law enforcement, will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), as well as the You Drink, You Drive, You Lose campaign (running through September 7^th) during this holiday weekend. If alcohol is part of your Labor Day holiday celebration, don’t drink and drive. Getting arrested could be the least of your concerns. There are court costs, medical bills, or perhaps jail time. If you kill or injure someone, you’ll pay a price for the rest of your life. If you choose to drink this Labor Day holiday, choose a designated driver. The Salem Football Tigers will try to even their record at 1-1, as they will be on the road to face the St. Clair Bulldogs starting at 7:00 tonight. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt at 6:30.

Casey McGehee hit a two-run home run and drove in three as the Milwaukee Brewers took a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Matt Holliday and Julio Lugo each went 3-for-4 with a solo home run for the Cardinals, who had a five-game winning streak snapped. John Smoltz (1-1) got the loss in his third start with St. Louis after giving up four runs on six hits with six strikeouts over six innings of work. St. Louis starts a three-game set in Pittsburgh tonight at 5:45 but the game will be interrupted for Salem Tiger Football. You can hear the conclusion of the game after the football game. The Cards will also play Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. You can hear all three games on KSMO Radio.

The Royals had the day off Thursday and they will host the L.A. Angels of Anaheim this weekend. The Royals are a woeful 31 games under .500.

The Missouri Football Tigers start their regular season with against the Fighting Illini of Illinois tomorrow at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Game time is set for 2:30 and you can hear the broadcast of the game starting at 1:30 on KSMO Radio.

Brock Berlin threw for a touchdown and St. Louis held off Kansas City, 17-9, in the preseason finale for both teams. Berlin and Keith Null each connected on 9-of-17 passes for the Rams (3-1), who are in Seattle to begin the regular season on September 13. Berlin had 97 yards, while Null went for 78. Kyle Boller was 3-of-4 for 24 yards in the start. Brodie Croyle connected on 5-of-16 passes for 85 yards in the start for the Chiefs (0-4), who open the regular season at Baltimore on September 13. Matt Cassel sat out with knee and ankle injuries. The Chiefs out gained the Rams, 406-252 in total yardage, but Kansas City lost a fumble and Tyler Thigpen was picked off twice, with Quincy Butler returning one of them 28 yards for a score, giving the Rams a 14-9 lead late in the third quarter. Ryan Succop kicked three field goals for the Chiefs from 31, 40 and 34 yards.
