An accident occurred at 11:50 Thursday night in the Phelps County on Phelps County Road 2060 about three and a half miles west of Rolla that took the life of two young men. According to the highway patrol report, a 1988 Ford F-350 driven by 18-year old Zackery Skaggs of Rolla, was traveling west on Phelps County Road 2060 when the Ford traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, traveled off the left side of the roadway, became airborne and struck a tree. Skaggs and a passenger, 18-year old Nathan Cremer of Edgar Springs, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County Coroner Larry Swinfard. No one involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled was removed from the scene by Dishman Towing of Rolla.
An accident occurred at 11:00 Sunday morning in Dent County on Dent County Road 5630 about two miles west of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Honda ATV driven by 44-year old Dennis Parker of Bunker, lost control in a curve, traveled off the road, and struck an embankment. Parker suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington by Reynolds County ambulance. He was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Honda ATV sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene by a friend.
An accident occurred at 5:00 Sunday night in Dent County on Route E about 11 miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1991 Chevrolet pickup pulling a trailor driven by 54-year old Rocky Gott of Salem, ran off the left side of the road and struck a mailbox and culvert. Gott suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by private conveyance. The Chevy pickup sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.
The Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their next regular meeting this evening at the city hall council chambers. After a closed session at 6:45 to discuss personnel, the board will hear from Pam Nash from the Salem Residential care about a motorcycle poker run at their facility on September 20th. They will also hear from J.D. Norris who wants to discuss how tickets are issued and harassment; and the board will hear from Laurie Walker who will present a petition to enforce city ordinances that apply to trashy property. After the consent agenda, the board will hear from the mayor and city engineer about rebidding the sidewalk concrete project. The board will then hear discussion from the alderman about miscellaneous items affecting the city and Alderman McDaniels wants to address the Fidelity Cable fees. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his report. In new business, the board will discuss a petition for annexation by the Salem R-80 district for their new administrative offices, discuss the fall clean-up week beginning October 6th, and discuss sending a city official and an employee representative to the annual LAGERS meeting in Springfield on October 23rd and 24th. After the bills are approved, the board will go into closed session. The meeting tonight of the Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

Salem had the lead twice against Mountain Grove, but turned the ball over four times and lost to the Panthers by the final score of 41-14. Landie Oliver scored both touchdowns for Salem: one on a 20-yard run, and the other on an interception return. Salem will host St. Clair Friday night in a non-conference game at 7:00.
The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host St. James tonight at the Salem High School Gym starting at 5:30 with the JV contest followed by the varsity match.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers travel to Ava today for a game at 4:30.
Chase Daniel connected on 26-of-45 passes for 323 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, as the sixth-ranked Missouri Tigers started their season with a convincing 52-42 win over the 20th-ranked Fighting Illini of Illinois. Chase Coffman hauled in nine catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, while Derrick Washington led the Tigers' rushing attack with 130 yards and a pair of scores. Jeremy Maclin had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown but left the game with an ankle injury. Missouri will face SEMO this Saturday at 6:00.
Stephen Drew hit for the cycle as part of a five-hit day while three other Arizona players homered to give the Diamondbacks an 8-6 comeback victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opening game of a three-game series at Chase Field. Joel Pineiro allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in five innings, with three strikeouts. Kyle McClellan (2-7) took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief work. Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Joe Mather and Felipe Lopez all swatted homers in the loss. Cesar Izturis added three hits as the Cardinals dropped their fifth game out of the last six. The Cards and Arizona play again tonight at 8:20 on KSMO Radio.
The St. Louis Cardinals activated pitcher Chris Carpenter from the 15-day disabled list Monday. The Cardinals also recalled pitcher Randy Flores from Triple-A Memphis and announced they would add infielders Brendan Ryan and Brian Barden, catcher Mark Johnson and pitchers Josh Kinney, Jason Motte and Kelvin Jimenez to the active roster on Tuesday.
The Royals had the day off Monday and will host Oakland tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

Funeral services for Eugene S. Barwick of Rolla, age 87, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery.
