The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a traffic stop, assault, a disturbance and thefts. On Tuesday, August 25th at 8:09 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. At 12:08 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Rolla Road in reference to an assault. The report revealed that a 65-year old Salem female had assaulted a 23-year old female of Rolla. On Wednesday, August 26th at 12:14 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Fourth in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the detention of a 16-year old male juvenile of Salem for disorderly conduct. He was released to a parent and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile office. On Thursday, August 27th at 7:59 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Dent County Soil and Water Conservation District building on Highway 32 East in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a hose from an industrial sprayer. At 8:13 that evening, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a red 1996 Jeep Cherokee and took a red and black ladies wallet and digital camera valued $165.00. Anyone with any information regarding the assault or the thefts reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident happened 5:00 Friday morning in Dent County on Route VV about 19 miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 60-year old Carl Gant of Kennashaw, Georgia, was traveling westbound on Route VV. The motorcycle rounded a curve, lost control and ran off the right side, coming to rest in the ditch. Gant suffered moderate injury and taken to the Texas County Hospital in Houston by private vehicle. The Harley sustained extensive damage and was taken to a nearby residence.

An accident occurred at 11:15am Saturday morning in Dent County on Route VV about 3/10ths of a mile east of the Texas/Dent county line. According to the highway patrol report. a 1981 Honda Goldwing 1100 driven by 57-year-old James Corey of Rolla, was traveling east on route VV. The accident occurred as the driver swerved to avoid a deer causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected causing the vehicle to overturn, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Corey suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by Salem ambulance. Corey was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Honda was totaled and was removed from the scene by the family.

Roadwork continues this week in the KSMO listening area. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be patching on the Route EE spur in Dent County, from Route EE to the end of state maintenance.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Patching restores rideablility of the roadway surface. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on the roadway. MoDOT will perform patching on Route 32 in Iron County, from Route 21 to Route 49.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Patching restores rideablility of the roadway surface. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving past the work zone. Contractor crews are scheduled to begin work on a surface leveling project on Highway 19 in Dent County on Tuesday, September 1. Weather permitting, crews and equipment are scheduled to be on the roadway from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The project includes 6.108 miles of cold milling and asphalt paving beginning just north of Salem. The work was awarded to Pace Construction Company, LLC., of St. Louis, Mo., during the June meeting of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. During construction, crews and equipment will be directly on or near the roadway. Flaggers will be present, and motorists will be required to stop. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the area.

Chris Shannon’s 89 yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown late in the first half, and Christian Mathews 23-yard field goal in the third quarter proved to be enough as the Mountain Grove Panthers beat the Salem Tigers in the season opener, 10-6. Salem’s only score came with 3 second left in the game when Andrew Kissir hit Frankie Boyd with a 27-yard pass in the end zone. Derek Freeman rushed the ball 18 times for 99 yards for Salem. The Tigers will hit the road for the next three games as they will be in St. Clair Friday night.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at St. James today to face the Tigers starting at 4:30. The Lady Tigers are 1-2 on the year.

Albert Pujols knocked in Colby Rasmus with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the St. Louis Cardinals held on to edge the Washington Nationals, 2-1, completing a three-game series sweep at Busch Stadium. Rasmus and Pujols accounted for all of the Cardinals' four hits with Rasmus scoring both runs. St. Louis has now won 18 of its last 22 games. Rick Ankiel knocked in the other Cardinals run with a sacrifice fly. Adam Wainwright (16-7) went six innings and allowed three hits and one run, struck out seven and walked three in earning his major league-leading 16th win of the season. The Cards have the day off today.

Zack Greinke hurled a career-best one-hitter as Kansas City topped Seattle, 3-0, in the finale of a four-game set from Safeco Field. After striking out a franchise-best 15 batters against the Indians on Tuesday, Greinke (13-8) turned in his major-league best sixth complete game of the season and lowered his AL-best earned run average to 2.32. Miguel Olivo and David DeJesus knocked in a run apiece for the Royals, who managed a split in the series and halted a two-game losing streak. The Royals will be in Oakland tonight.

Matt Hasselbeck threw two touchdowns for Seattle, but Kansas City endured a scare as quarterback Matt Cassel exited on the game's opening series with a leg injury in the Seahawks' 14-10 preseason win Saturday night. Cassel was replaced by Tyler Thigpen, who completed 8-of-15 passes for 56 yards. Matt Gutierrez was 10-of-13 for 113 yards and two interceptions. Larry Johnson rushed for 36 yards on eight carries, while Ashley Lelie accumulated 52 yards on four receptions.

The St. Louis Blues announced that captain Eric Brewer underwent successful minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The 30-year-old defenseman was limited to just 28 games last season because of a herniated disc in his back. Brewer registered one goal and six points with a minus-14 rating.

Funeral services for Doris Gean Dunlap of Boss, age 58, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Hanson Cemetery in Boss.

Graveside services for Ronald Henson of Rolla, age 58, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Pilot Know cemetery in Vida, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral Mass for William R. “Bob” Cottrell of Steelville, age 71, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Steelville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Leasburg. Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.
