The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Becki Heathman was by to invite the Commissioners to the Salem Area Community Betterment judging September 10^th starting at 8:30 am at ONCRC. In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6280 and 6283, while brush would be cut on county road 5015. Purcell went on to say that he had a man re-establishing county road signs, two trucks were hauling brown rock and one truck was finishing the white rock at the Tiger Trail Project. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2210 and that 1 man was using the brush cutter to help the City of Salem clean up the hiking trail in preparation for the Community Betterment Judging. Larson added that he had two men and trucks hauling white rock to the Tiger Trail project and when they were finished they would be hauling brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he attended the MRPC Emergency Planning Committee meeting and they are planning a full-scale exercise for this fall and the schools will be included. Skiles went on to say that the Committee has reserve funds available for training emergency responders. Skiles informed the Commissioners that Dent County needs a representative to the Committee who would represent community groups. Skiles said that Richard Pogue had agreed to fill the position and the Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve Pogue. Vernon Cornelius had approached the County requesting a Quit Claim Deed on the old railroad right of way running through his property in Crawford County. Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley had requested a letter from Ruble Surveying verifying the location of the property. Skiles had received the letter from Ruble so the Commissioners approved signing the Quit Claim Deed 3-0. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that bills were being approved today and that her office would conduct the vote recount on Constitutional Amendment 1 on Friday September 5^th starting at 9:00 am. Curley again reminded voters that the last day to register for the November General Election is October 10th and anyone with name or address changes needs to come by her office and make the changes. A hearing to vacate Dent County Roads 4130 and 4140 was held at 9:30 and the first reading of the order was read. The second and final reading will be September 18th at 9:30. These roads are in the old Gano Trailer Court, which now belongs to Independent Stave Co. The Commissioners set September 18th at 10:30 for the exit meeting with the auditor. District 1 Commissioner Purcell added that the new brush cutter was delivered Wednesday and that he will be in contact with Town and Country Bank to finalize the paperwork on financing. Beth Frizzell of Century 21 South Central Realty was in to check about the county’s position on not being a member of the National Flood Program. Frizzell indicated she had recently lost a sale because the prospective buyer could not get financing since they could not get flood insurance on a property that was in Flood Zone A. After some discussion Skiles indicated that the Commission would check into the issue, plus consult with the City of Salem since the City is a participant. At 10:00 a pre-construction meeting for the bridge on Dent County Road 3210 was held with representatives from Great River Associates, MoDOT, Robertson Contractors, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Dent County Road and Bridge Department. Robertson Contractors has already moved some equipment to the site and plans to close the road and weather permitting start work Tuesday September 2nd. Robertson’s goal is to have all work done by November 1st. All contracts for the project were signed. The Commissioners approved the bills 3-0. Due to the Labor Day Holiday the next meeting of Commissioners will be Thursday September 4th at 9:00 at the Courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Salem Tiger Football team will host Reed Springs tonight at 7:00. Salem is 1-0 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com starting around 6:30 with Tiger Talk.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will host the Chicago Cubs for a four game series tonight at 7:15 at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals are 71-61 on the year and sit 1½ game back of the Brewers for the lead in the NL Central. KSMO will join tonight’s game in progress following the Salem game.

Jordan Schafer and Brian Dozier each knocked in two runs during a six-run 10th inning, as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals, 11-5, to avoid a three-game sweep. Alex Gordon hit a solo homer and ended with two RBI for the AL Central leading Royals, who will start a three game series with the Cleveland Indians tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

The Miami Dolphins scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat the St. Louis Rams 14-13 on Thursday night. The Rams finished the preseason at 1-3. They open the regular season at home against Minnesota on September 7^th.

Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien both threw two touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers routed the Kansas City Chiefs, 34-14, in the preseason finale. The Chiefs kick off their season against Tennessee on September 7^th.
