The Dent County Sheriff’s Department along with Missouri State Highway Patrol officers arrested six Dent County residents last Tuesday after executing a search warrant and conducting searches at two rural Dent County locations. Those arrested included 32-year old Lindee Jean Sprong, 44-year old Robert Miner, 51-year old Eva Miner, 27-year old Daniel Bates, 19-year old Michelle Smith and 27-year old Andrew Bates. Sprong was arrested on a felony count of possession of methamphetamine while Eva Miner faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance (opiates) and tampering with physical evidence. Both are being held in the Dent County Jail on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. Robert Miner was arrested on a felony charge of possession of hydrocodone while Andrew Bates was arrested on possession of a controlled substance (opiates).  They are also being held in the Dent County Jail on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. Daniel Bates was charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance (opiates) and is being held in the Dent County Jail on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. Michelle Smith was also arrested and charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance (opiates), but was later released. The residences that were searched were located on Highway 19 north.

An accident occurred at 9:20 Friday night in Dent County on Highway VV about 20 miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by 41 year-old Kimberley Mondragon of Licking ran off the right side of the road, struck two mailboxes, and struck several trees. Mondragon suffered minor injuries but refused treatment. She was then arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, no seat belt, and no insurance. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and was later released. The Ford Ranger sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene of the accident by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 10:56 Friday night in Texas County on Highway 17 south of Highway 137. According to the highway patrol report, 54 year-old William Hawkins of Licking was driving a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 and was stopped for a traffic violation. Hawkins failed to the place the vehicle into park and backed into a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 51 year-old George Falterman of Licking. William Hawkins was then arrested for driving while intoxicated. The Chevrolet S-10 sustained minor damage and was removed from the scene by A1 Towing. The Crown Victoria sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released a couple of arrest reports for Dent County. On Friday, August 19th at 3:00 in the afternoon, 30-year old John Martin of St. James was arrested on felony Phelps County warrants for failure to appear for non-support and first degree tampering with a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Tuesday, August 23rd at 11:33 at night, 36 year-old Jeanette White of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for stealing. She was taken to the Dent County Jail.

An accident happened in Phelps County Sunday evening at 6:00 on Phelps County Road 1120 that left a St. James teenage with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, 16-year old Levi Matlock of St. James was driving a 2000 Trail Boss 325 when he lost control of the vehicle. The Trail Boss overturned and ejected Matlock from the vehicle. He was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla by the St. James Ambulance. It was not certain if Matlock was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The vehicle had only minor damage and was secured at the scene.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold a special closed session meeting this evening at 6:15 in the City Administrative Offices Building at 400 North Iron Street for the purpose of discussing personnel. The meeting was called by Mayor Gary Brown and it is NOT open to the public.

Connor Blair for Thayer was a one-man wrecking crew as he caught a pass for a touchdown, returned a fumble for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown as the Thayer Bobcats beat Salem, 29-14. Salem had six turnovers in the game that thwarted a number of promising drives. Sammy Ibrahim and Brady Floyd scored for Salem who will be home this Friday night against Houston in SCA play starting at 7:00.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will travel to St. James to face the Lady Tigers starting at 4:30. Salem is 2-2 on the year.

Skip Schumaker and Ryan Theriot both had two hits and drove in two, helping the Cardinals to a 7-4 victory and series win against the Pirates. Allen Craig's sacrifice fly in the fourth plated the go-ahead run, while Kyle Lohse (12-8) allowed four runs in five innings to pick up his 100th major league victory. Jason Motte threw a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season. The Cardinals will have the day off today.

Bruce Chen dominated Cleveland after a shaky first inning, helping the Kansas City Royals put another damper on the Indians' fleeting playoff hopes in a 2-1 victory at Progressive Field. The lefty allowed five hits and two walks while striking out four to post his second straight 10-win season. Joakim Soria earned his 24th save with a perfect ninth. Billy Butler went 3-for-5 with the game-winning RBI, while Mike Moustakas extended his hit streak to 11 with the go-ahead single in the third. The Royals will be in Detroit tonight.

Second-year quarterback Sam Bradford completed 9-of-16 passes for 95 yards, two touchdowns and one interception to lead the St. Louis Rams to a 14-10 win over the intrastate rival Kansas City Chiefs in the third game of the preseason for both teams. Steven Jackson rushed 15 times for 72 yards and a long run of 25 yards. Former Iowa Hawkeye star Ricky Stanzi led the Chiefs air attack with 121 yards and one touchdown on 8-of-14 passing.

Funeral services for Fedora “Dodie” Sargent of Steelville, age 94, will be held Tuesday at 5:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 3:00 until service time Tuesday. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Funeral services for Karen Ann Wynn of Steelville, age 59, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joelene Bolerjack of Salem, age 76, will be private and are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Visitation for Vera Aline Kehr, age 90, will be held Thursday from 5:00-8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
