The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving burglary and a burglary and assault. On Tuesday, August 19^th at 9:00 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary, which had occurred at a business located off of Highway 19 South. Reported taken were 40 handmade hemp & bead necklaces, 24 rope sandals and 6 glass bead necklaces. On Friday, August 22^nd at 4:01 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary and assault, which had occurred at a residence located off of Dent County Road 411.  Upon arrival the Deputy met a male subject who stated he was awakened by two male subjects wearing masks.  The victim was beaten with what was described as a lead pipe and a tire tool and his hands and feet were duct taped.  The residence was ransacked and a Play Station 3 with games, 2 cordless remote Sony controllers,  $7.00 in cash, collection of pocketknives and a 160 GB I-Pod were taken as the suspects fled the residence. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, shoplifting, a traffic stop, a leave without pay and a fight. On August 22^nd at 12:15 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Memorial Hospital in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 42-year old Salem male had been in an altercation at the Fifth Street Pub with two individuals whom he didn’t know. He was walking home from the establishment when two unknown males assaulted him. At 2:47 that afternoon, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting incident. That investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem woman on the shoplifting charge. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On August 23^rd at 4:45 in the afternoon, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Center and Holman Streets. Once the vehicle had stopped, the investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem man for driving while suspended and careless and imprudent driving. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On August 24^th at 8:55 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Gas Plus on North Highway 19 in reference to a leaving without paying for fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that a white Ford F-150 pickup bearing an Illinois license plate and occupied by two white makes and one white female, obtained $15 in fuel and left north on Highway 19 without paying for the fuel. At 7:00 that night, an officer was sent to the area of 700 South Pershing in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year old Salem man for domestic assault. He was incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following promotion effective September 1, 2008: Lieutenant Lee Ann H. Kenley is being promoted to the rank of captain and designated commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla. Kenley was appointed to the Patrol on September 1, 1985, as a member of the 57th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, she was assigned to Troop E in Poplar Bluff. In 1989, she transferred to the Division of Drug and Crime Control’s Troop E Unit. Kenley was promoted to the rank of corporal on October 1, 1992. She transferred to Troop C in St. Louis, on February 1, 1994. Kenley was promoted to the rank of sergeant on February 1, 1995. On June 1, 1999, she was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to Troop I, Rolla. Captain Kenley was born in Kankakee, Illinois. She graduated from Herscher High School in 1980. Kenley graduated from the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command in Evanston, Illinois, in 1999. In 2001, she graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Captain Kenley is married to Samuel C. Kenley. She is the first female troop commander in the history of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The City of Salem Fall Youth Soccer Program will begin soon. The Salem Parks and Recreation Department will be holding signups for boys and girls ages 4 through 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with final signups today and tomorrow. The cost per child is $15.00. ALL signups will be held in the lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center (the old Armory.) The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Bakersfield today at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field starting. The varsity enters the game with a 0-2 record and the JV is 2-0.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will have an intersquad scrimmage tonight at 6:00 at the Salem High School Gym. Your admission cost tonight is a bottle of water or a sports drink for the girls to use during the regular season.

Ryan Ludwick finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, as St. Louis used a four-run eighth inning to upend Milwaukee, 5-3, and earn a split in the two-game set with the Brewers. Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina each had two hits, while Aaron Miles drove in the go-ahead run for the Cardinals, who have won four of six. St. Louis also moved within 3 1/2 games of first-place Milwaukee in the NL Wild Card standings. Adam Wainwright allowed three runs on eight hits in a six- inning start for the Cardinals, but didn't factor into the decision. Ryan Franklin (5-5) threw a scoreless eighth to earn the win. The Cardinals have the day off today.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored while Brandon Boggs homered, as the Texas Rangers completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 3-2 victory. David DeJesus and Esteban German both drove in a run for the Royals, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 games. Brian Bannister (7-14) was tagged with the loss as he surrendered three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. The righty also fanned a career-high eight batters and walked just one. KC fell to a season-worst 21 games below .500 with the loss. The Royals are off today.

St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contract of first baseman Josh Phelps from Memphis (PCL); optioned pitcher Jaime Garcia to Memphis; transferred pitcher Mark Mulder to the 60-day disabled list.

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Kevin Robinson on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. They also released defensive tackle Maurice Murray, defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic, offensive tackle Ken Shackleford and kicker Jay Feeley.

The St. Louis Rams have released running back Lavarus Giles, kicker Justin Medlock and wide receiver Shaine Smith. They also placed cornerback Justin King on the reserve/injured list.
