The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, Bobbie Bailey from Citizens Bank of Rolla came to the meeting asking for help from the commission in dealing with an agreement signed by eleven persons in 1990 to help pay for the chip and seal of a county road that was then recorded in 1992. The document showed up on a title search for a client who applied for a loan on property that is on Dent County Road 4240. She stated that she needed a letter from the commission that indicated that they were responsible for the maintenance of the road. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles contacted Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley for his opinion. He said that the commission would have no problem issuing a letter saying the county will continue to maintain the road for this issue and the commissioners approved issuing the letter with a 3-0 vote. The commissioners agreed that they would like to get rid of this encumbrance as it could affect the other property owners from that road if they were trying to get a loan or refinance. Curley will prepare a waiver from the county that can then be recorded removing that encumbrance from those property owners who signed the agreement. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5150, 5600, 6020, 6040 and 6460; while brush would be cut on county roads 5080, 6570 and 6590. Purcell indicated that a man was sent to Springfield to get oil for the Dura-Patcher to repair chip and seal roads and one man would be screening brown gravel at the shed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2070, 2090, 3020 and 4330. Larson then said that brush would be cut on county roads 2050 and 3020. Ruth Ann Parker came in and requested from the county if the Library Board could use their MRPC hours to help prepare a grant for the library. The commissioners agreed to allow the Library Board to use their eight hours. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to remind the commission that Matt Williams from Senator Claire McCaskill’s office will be in town this morning from 10:30 to 11:30 at her “Kitchen Table Talks” at the Salem Public Library on Jackson Street. The “Table Talk” will allow constituents to talk with Williams about any questions or concerns they have, or to get assistance from federal agencies. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol released their arrest reports for Saturday, August 24^th. At 2:05 in the morning in Phelps County, 20-year old Neil Wessling of Ballwin was arrested and charged with failure to use a turn signal and DWI. He was held in the Phelps County Jail. At 3:15 in the afternoon in Dent County, 55-year old Eli Troyer of Salem was arrested and charged with a felony warrant in Monroe County Michigan for failure to pay child support. He is being held in the Dent County Jail on no bond. At 11:40 in the evening in Dent County, 62-year old Alfred Orcutt of Salem was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident and no proof of insurance. He was held in the Dent County Jail.

The Salem Tiger Fall Sports programs begin tomorrow when the Salem Softball Tigers will host the Newburg Lady Wolves starting at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. A number of improvements have been made to the field including a new press box and dugouts, the scoreboard is now in center field along with a new flagpole, and sponsor banners outline the outfield fence. You will be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmorado.com beginning with Tiger Talk and Coach Jake Reardon starting at 4:15 on Wednesday.

The Salem Football Tigers surrendered only two touchdowns, one to Sullivan and one to Pacific, in the Jamboree held this past Friday night in Sullivan. Coach Brian McNamee was pleased with his offense as he incorporated both the wishbone and spread offense in preparation for the season opener against Houston this Friday night at Houston.

City of Salem Youth Flag Football Program is coming up quickly. Sign-ups will be held on Thursday, August 29^th and Friday, August 30^th from 4:00 to 6:00 and the Final sign-up will be held on Saturday, August 31^st from 9:00 am until noon. Sign-ups will be held in the front lobby at the Salem Freedom Activity Center (formerly the National Guard Armory). Allen Craig belted a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals moved into first place in the NL Central with an 8-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three- game series at Busch Stadium. Craig went 3-for-4 and Matt Holliday added a three-run homer for the Cardinals, who won for the eighth time in their last 10 contests. They moved a half-game ahead of idle Pittsburgh atop the division. The Cards and Reds play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:40.

Billy Butler finished 3-for-3 with a solo homer, three RBI and three runs scored, as the Kansas City Royals routed the Tampa Bay Rays, 11-1, in a makeup game at Kauffman Stadium. The contest was originally supposed to be played on May 2, but a snow storm in Kansas City forced the game to be rescheduled for Monday. Salvador Perez clubbed a three-run homer and registered four RBI, while Mike Moustakas added two hits, two RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who have won back-to-back games on the heels of a seven-game slide. The Royals will start a series with the Twins tonight.

Funeral services for Delphia Schafer of Salem, age 93, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mildred A. Simpson of St. James, age 88, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 at the St. James Chapel on James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until service time.

Funeral services for Gary Lee Seneker of Salem, age 58, will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial services for Leslie Ann Fry of Eminence, age 29, will be held Wednesday night at 7:00 at the Eminence Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eminence. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to the Amaura Fry Education Fund at the Bank of Salem. Cards will be available at the fellowship hall.

Memorial services for Alexis Marie Henson of Newburg, age 11, will be Friday at 5:30 at the First Baptist Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be at the church from 4:30 until service time. Memorials may be given to the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

A Graveside service for Kenneth Melvin Sampson of Spartanburg, South Carolina, age 75, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Lake Springs Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Lamb of God Lutheran Church or the Soup Kitchen in Spartanburg, South Carolina. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
