On June 9th, 2009, a felony warrant for kidnapping was issued by the Dent County Sheriff’s Office against Jetta Midyett who allegedly took her two sons, Wilman and Oliver, out of the state. On Thursday, August 23rd, Sheriff Rick Stallings was contacted by Sheriff Mark Miller of Meade County in Kansas concerning Midyett.  Sheriff Miller advised Stallings that he had received information on the location of Jetta Midyett and requested that the warrant information be faxed to his office. Sheriff Miller contacted Sergeant Mike Roderman of the Dent County Sheriff Office confirming that Jetta Midyett had been taken into custody. She will be detained at the Meade County Kansas Law Enforcement Center awaiting extradition back to Missouri.

An accident occurred at 11:05 Friday night in Phelps County on private property just one mile west of Doolittle that took the life of a Newburg teenager. According to the highway patrol report, 14 year-old Kara Steen of Newburg attempted to jump onto a 2008 Dodge Ram, which was being driven by 17 year-old Jamie Stevenson of Doolittle, when the vehicle was in motion. Steen fell from the vehicle and was struck by the rear tire. Steen was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Lenox Jones at 11:16 and her body was taken to the Phelps County Morgue.

An accident occurred at 12:20 Saturday afternoon in Reynolds County on Route UU about a mile north of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Dodge pickup driven by 47-year old John Ireland of Bunker traveled off the roadway, struck a fence and several trees, and then came to rest. Ireland suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He wasn’t wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 2:40 early Sunday morning in Dent County on Route O about a mile north of Lacoma. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Jeep Compass driven by 18-year old Alexcia Hodsden of Rolla traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and then came to rest off the roadway. Hodsden suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will be conducting a Workshop, called by Chairman Jerry Craig, tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:00. The purpose of the workshop is to welcome Renee Skaggs to the Board, determine current priorities, address enforcement procedures, make sure members have a clear understanding of the relationship of codes and deal with nuisances. The workshop of the Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners is open to the public.

The 12th Tiger Club’s Football Parade has been RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH. Businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade and show their Tiger Pride and Spirit. Floats and vehicles should line up around 5:30 pm, between the City of Salem Administration Building and the East Salem Hill. The parade will take off around 6:00 pm and will arrive at the Salem High School Football Stadium before the beginning at the game. Kristen Hemken and Samantha Parker finished with two RBI apiece as the Salem Lady Tiger softball team beat Vienna on Friday, 5-2. Over the weekend, the Lady Tigers took 2nd place in the Houston Tournament. Salem beat Steelville 7-3 and Houston 8-6 before falling to Naylor 7-2 in the championship game. Courtney Putman pitched complete games in all three tournament games for Salem, went 2-5 at the plate and drove in three runs. Kaytlyn Wells went 6-8 with four RBI and two doubles, Samantha Parker finished 3-6 with a home run and two RBI, and Savannah Hanning went 4-9 with two RBI in the tournament. The Lady Tigers are now 5-1 on the year and they will host St. James at 4:30 this afternoon and you can hear it on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Brady Floyd rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Salem Football Tigers past Houston Saturday night by the score of 35-6. Austin Rogers also scored two touchdowns for Salem and the other score came on a fumble recovery in the end zone by Jesse Dodd. Salem is 1-0 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA as they will play Confluence Prep from St. Louis Friday night at 5:30 at the SHS Football Field.

Matt Holliday and Allen Craig combined for seven RBI on Sunday, helping the St. Louis Cardinals cruise to an 8-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber match of a three-game series. Holliday finished a home run shy of the cycle, drove in four and scored twice, while Craig belted a two-run blast and added an RBI single. Adam Wainwright (13-10) gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings and won his fifth straight start. The Cards will start a three-game series with the Pirates tonight at 5:55 and you can hear it on KSMO following the Salem game.

Pedro Ciriaco went 3-for-5 with a homer to lead the Boston Red Sox to an 8-6 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Lorenzo Cain hit a three-run homer and Tony Abreu had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who have dropped three of their last four. Will Smith (4-6) gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks to absorb the loss. The Royals and Red Sox play again this afternoon.

Tony Romo threw for two touchdowns as the Dallas Cowboys hung on for a 20-19 win over the St. Louis Rams in preseason action. Sam Bradford completed just 6-of-17 passing for 64 yards, while Austin Pettis caught a touchdown pass in the loss for the Rams. The Rams play the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns in the Seahawks' 44-14 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Matt Cassel threw for 168 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-34 efficiency for the Chiefs, while Dexter McCluster caught seven passes for 61 yards and a score. The Chiefs play the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.

Funeral services for James Charles Biggs of Salem, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Green Forest Cemetery and the Upper Parker Community Church.

Funeral services for Karrah Lavaughn Steen of Newburg, age 14, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Karrah Levaughn Steen Scholarship Fund.

Graveside services for Irene C Emory of Willow Springs, formerly of Salem, age 94, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Compassus Foundation.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Chretien of Rolla and formerly of New Hampshire, age 76, will be announced at a later date. All arrangements are under the directions of James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla
