The Salem Lady Softball Tigers dropped a 9-2 decision to Bakersfield Thursday afternoon to fall to 0-3 on the year. The Lady Tigers could only muster four hits. They will be Vienna this afternoon starting at 4:30.

The City of Salem Park and Recreation Department will be holding soccer program signups in the front room of the Salem Freedom Activity Center from 4:00 to 6:00 tonight and Saturday morning from 9:00 to noon. Signups will also be held next Thursday and Friday.
Albert Pujols became the fastest player in number of seasons to hit 400 home runs, but Ian Desmond's single in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted Washington over St. Louis, 11-10, in the opener of a four-game set from Nationals Park. Randy Winn finished 4-for-6 with three RBI, Skip Schumaker also drove in three runs, while Pujols collected two hits and walked three times for the Cardinals, who have lost three in a row and fell four games behind idle Cincinnati in the AL Central. Blake Hawksworth (4-8) was charged with two hits and the winning run while recording just one out in the 13th.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will be back in action tonight as they travel to Cleveland to start a three-game series with the Indians.
Josh Brown's 37-yard field goal in the final seconds lifted St. Louis to a 36-35 win over New England in a preseason contest from Gillette Stadium. Sam Bradford was under center for the first half, going 15-of-22 for 189 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams, who improved to 2-1 in their exhibition slate. Michael Hoomanawanui posted four catches for 53 yards and two TDs, Brandon Gibson also added a touchdown reception and Keith Toston had 41 rushing yards and a score on 12 carries. Donnie Avery left following the first half with a right knee injury after two catches for 48 yards.
