An accident happened in Shannon County Sunday morning at 3:05 on Shannon County Road 305 about three miles north of Eminence that took the life of a Rolla woman. According to the highway patrol report, 29-year old Leslie Fry of Rolla was driving a 2013 Arctic Cat UTV southbound when the UTV began skidding. The Arctic Cat traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned and ejected Fry and a passenger, 29-year old James Rowden of Hillsboro from the UTV. The Shannon County Coroner Tim Denton pronounced Fry dead at the scene at 4:14 in the morning and her body was taken to the Duncan Funeral Home in Mountain View. Rowden suffered moderate injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to Mercy Hospital. Neither Fry or Rowden were wearing safety restraints at the time of the accident. The Arctic Cat sustained moderate damages and was left at the scene of the accident.

An accident occurred at 2:15 Friday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 32 about two miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Ford Windstar driven by 54-year old Bonnie Sullins of Salem, was traveling westbound on Highway 32 when she crossed the centerline and side swiped a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by 55-year old Megan Cafourek of Salem. Cafourek suffered minor injuries and sought her own treatment. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were driven from the scene.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released a report from Thursday, August 22nd. On that date, deputies from the Dent County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Missouri Department of Conservation executed a search warrant in the 6800 block of Route O in Dent County. During the search warrant, property that was reported stolen from a burglary on August 17th was recovered. Arrested were 29-year-old Robert Garn of Lecoma and his brother, 27-year old Kent Garn also of Lecoma. Robert Garn is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on charges of Burglary in the 2nd degree, Stealing, and the Stealing of a Firearm. His bond has been set at $25,000 cash only. Kent Garn is currently being held at the Dent County Jail on charges of two counts Burglary in the 2nd degree, two counts of Stealing, one count of the Stealing a Firearm, one count of Resisting Arrest and one count of 2nd Degree Assault on Law enforcement. His bond has been set at $50,000 cash only. A further investigation by deputies also revealed that 27-year old Stephen Mock of Salem aided in burglaries with Kent Garn that occurred on Route P in Dent County. Mock is charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree and Stealing. Mock's bond has been set at $20,000 cash only. These charges are mere accusations. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence

The Salem Police Department released their reports for Thursday, August 15th. According to the Salem Police Department at 4:00 in the morning, an officer transported a 35-year old female of Salem to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla in lieu of a mental commitment order. At 4:01 that morning, an officer transported a 62-year old male of Joplin to the New Hope Medical Center in Sullivan in lieu of a mental commitment order. At 7:24 that same morning, an officer located a 37-year old male of Salem near Highway 32 and Warfel who had an active arrest warrant from Lawrence County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. At 3:00 Thursday afternoon, August 15th, an officer transported a 24-year old male of Harvell from the Butler County Sheriffs Department to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. At 8:03 in the evening, an officer located a 27-year old male of Salem near Warfel and Center who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Anyone with information about an ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

During the month of July 2013, troopers assigned to Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated one fatal traffic crash. That total represents eight less deaths than in July 2012. There were 209 accidents with 105 injuries and nine fatalities reported in July 2012 compared to the 156 accidents with 96 injuries and one fatality during July of 2013.The total number of fatalities investigated by Troop I Officers in 2013 is eleven, compared to twenty-seven for the same time period last year. In Crawford County, there were 29 accidents reported with 25 injuries, Dent County recorded 10 accidents with nine injuries and Laclede County reported 32 accidents with 19 injuries, Maries County recorded seven accidents and one injury, Phelps County recorded 42 accidents with 20 injuries, and Pulaski County recorded 36 accidents with 22 injuries and the one fatality.

City of Salem Youth Flag Football Program is coming up quickly. Sign-ups will be held on Thursday, August 29th and Friday, August 30th from 4:00 to 6:00 and the Final sign-up will be held on Saturday, August 31st from 9:00 am until noon. Sign-ups will be held in the front lobby at the Salem Freedom Activity Center (formerly the National Guard Armory). This league is for all boys and girls that are currently in the 3rd to 6th grades. Mike Minor threw seven innings of one-run ball to help the Atlanta Braves salvage their series against the St. Louis Cardinals by taking the finale of the four-game set, 5-2, Sunday at Busch Stadium. Allen Craig recorded three hits and drove in a run for the Cardinals, whose starter, Lance Lynn (13-8), was touched for four runs on nine hits over seven innings. The Cards will start a series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 5:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed pitcher Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. To take Westbrook's spot on the roster, the Cardinals recalled right-hander Carlos Martinez from Triple-A Memphis.

Salvador Perez drove in three runs and the Kansas City Royals snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals. Perez also had a two-run home run in the first for the Royals, who will play the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

Funeral services for Delphia Schafer of Salem, age 93, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday night. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mildred A. Simpson of St. James, age 88, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 at the St. James Chapel on James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until service time.

Funeral services for Gary Lee Seneker of Salem, age 58, will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial services for Alexis Marie Henson of Newburg, age 11, will be Friday at 5:30 at the First Baptist Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be at the church from 4:30 until service time. Memorials may be given to the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
