On June 9th, 2009, a felony warrant for kidnapping was issued by the Dent County Sheriff’s Office against Jetta Midyett who allegedly took her two sons, Wilman and Oliver, out of the state. On Thursday, August 23rd, Sheriff Rick Stallings was contacted by Sheriff Mark Miller of Meade County in Kansas concerning Midyett. Sheriff Miller advised Stallings that he had received information on the location of Jetta Midyett and requested that the warrant information be faxed to his office. Sheriff Miller contacted Sergeant Mike Roderman of the Dent County Sheriff Office confirming that Jetta Midyett had been taken into custody. She will be detained at the Meade County Kansas Law Enforcement Center awaiting extradition back Missouri.
The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning. For the road reports, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5150 and 6150, while grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6220, 6280 and 6400. He went on to report that material would be hauled to Dent County 6370 and there would be two workers doing repairs to the paver. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3140, 3150 and 5240, while material would hauled and then grading done on Dent County Road 2200. He went on to say that brush would be cut on the City Walking Trail and work was being done on a broken brush cutter. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind voters that if anyone that has had a name or address change to either stop by the clerk’s office or call 729-4144 to update your voter information. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Meramac Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting in St. James on Tuesday where topics addressed included the drought effecting Missouri, several emergency exercises that will conducted in the region in September and October and the 911 system in the state of Missouri. He also attended the Central Region Workforce Investment Board Caucus on Wednesday in Rolla where it was reported that the numbers for this year were down from last year. It was noted that although the number of people using the center were down, some had found jobs where others had probably just given up. At the last meeting, Matt Lloyd with Fabick and Company came in to discuss grader specs with the Commission. Also at the last meeting, Deloris Gray Wood came in to ask if the Commission would lift the burn ban for the encampment and re-enactment of the Skirmish to be held at the Mount Olive Baptist Church on Saturday, August 25th at 10:00. Skiles explained that there is a clause in the burn ban that would allow individuals needing to burn the right of way to request a one-time, one event waiver. Wood then spoke with Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash about that waiver. Greg Mendenhall of the Montauk Rural Fire Department was notified of the situation and the one-time, one-event waiver was granted. Skiles wanted to remind everyone that the burn ban for Dent County is still in effect. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday at 9:00 am the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.
The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will be conducting a Workshop, called by Chairman Jerry Craig, on Monday, August 27th at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:00 pm. The purpose of the workshop is to welcome Renee Skaggs to the Board, determine current priorities, address enforcement procedures, make sure members have a clear understanding of the relationship of codes and deal with nuisances. The workshop of the Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners is open to the public.
An accident occurred at 12:20 Wednesday afternoon in Salem on Highway W about four miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 32-year old Eric Pierce of Salem was traveling southbound and struck a deer. Pierce suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The motorcycle was totaled and removed by the family.
The 12th Tiger Club’s Football Parade has been RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH. Businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade and show their Tiger Pride and Spirit. Floats and vehicles should line up around 5:30 pm, between the City of Salem Administration Building and the East Salem Hill. The parade will take off around 6:00 pm and will arrive at the Salem High School Football Stadium before the beginning at the game. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers defeated Newburg Wednesday afternoon by the score of 13-6 at Newburg to start the season. Ashlyn Cook and Savannah Hanning each finished with two RBI apiece. The Lady Tigers continued their hot start on Thursday as they beat Bakersfield, 10-3, to move to 2-0 on the year. Cortney Putman threw a complete game while striking out 13 and Kaytlyn Wells collected three RBI. The Lady Tigers will travel to Vienna for non-conference action starting at 5:00 today.
The Salem Football Game scheduled for tonight has been postponed and moved to Saturday night at 7:00. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com and seen on fidelitylocal6.com.
The City of Salem’s Inaugural Fall Youth Flag Football Program is just around the corner. Signups will be held at the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and on Saturday, August 25th from 9:00 am to noon. Final signups will be Thursday, August 30th and Friday, August 31st from 4:00 to 6:00. This league is for all boys and girls currently in the 4th through 6th grades. Matt Holliday highlighted a five-run fifth inning with a go-ahead three-run double as the St. Louis Cardinals finished off a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros with a 13-5 rout at Busch Stadium. Holliday finished with four RBI and David Freese crushed a three-run home run for St. Louis, who have won four of their last five games. The Cardinals will start a three-game series tonight with the division leading Cincinnati Reds at 5:35 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will start a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox tonight.
