The Dent County Sheriff’s Department has released their reports. On Saturday, August 13th deputies were dispatched to County Road 6505 for a report of several stolen firearms. The victim stated he went to work that day and when he returned home he discovered that his guns were gone. The guns missing include two rifles and two shotguns. On Monday, August 15th a deputy was dispatched to County Road 3210 in reference to a trailer theft. The victim stated that someone stole his utility trailer and fuel. Further investigation of the scene revealed that 27 rolls of barbwire and 225 t-posts were also taken. The total value of the stolen items is $5,079.50. On Friday, August 19th deputies responded to County Road 3260 for a report of a burglary. The victim stated that numerous electronics valued at $1,370 were taken without his consent. The investigation is ongoing.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for Wednesday, August 17th. At 11:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to 215 East Fourth Street in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown had entered the building unlawfully and took 3 computers, DVDs, miscellaneous jewelry, and a small amount of cash. At noon, an officer was contacted at the station by the victim of an assault. The victim reported she was assaulted the night before at 10:30 in the 1800 block of South Oak. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem man for the assault. It was also discovered the he was being sought in reference to a property damage report from April 24th of this year. He was issued summons on both charges and released to appear in court. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact the Salem Police at 573-729-4242.

Richard Cavender, recently retired as executive director of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Cavender will serve a three-year term on the 21-member CFO Board of Directors. He also was appointed to one of two At-Large seats on the CFO’s Executive Committee. He was instrumental in founding the Meramec Regional Community Foundation, which was established in 2010 as an outgrowth of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission and now holds assets of $296,100 as of June 30th, 2011. Cavender served as executive director of the MRPC for 32 years before retiring in June. Until his retirement, he also served as secretary-treasurer for the Meramec Regional Community Foundation. The MRCF serves eight counties in central Missouri: Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski, and Washington; and 32 cities within those counties. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks is a regional public foundation with assets of about $180 million in more than 2,000 funds. The CFO’s network includes donors, 43 regional affiliate foundations, more than 400 non-profit agency partners and about 100 schools across central and southern Missouri.

The Missouri State Fair celebrated Youth in Agriculture Day Saturday, August 20. The annual Sale of Champions was a highlight of the day, raising $114,050 to benefit Missouri youth involved in agriculture. The opening lot was the Grand Champion Steer exhibited by Bailey Dent of Rolla. The 1,325-pound Crossbred steer sold for $20,000 to Edward Jones & Associates, Youth in Agriculture and hometown supporters.  The steer was donated to the University of Missouri-Columbia.

An accident occurred at 7:53 Monday night in Phelps County on Route E about six miles north of Rolla. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Ford driven by 35-year old Donna Edwards of Rolla was southbound on Route E, while 16-year old Bailey Dent of Rolla was driving a 1999 Chevrolet and traveling north. The accident occurred when the Ford driven by Edwards crossed the centerline, striking Dent’s vehicle nearly head on. Dent was transported by private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.  Edward’s vehicle was removed from the scene by Dishman’s Towing and Dent’s Chevy was taken by Cook’s Garage of Belle. Both Edwards and Dent were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers score six unearned runs in the top of the 7th inning and held on to beat the Salem Lady Tigers Tuesday at the Salem City Park Field, 15-11. Leah Whelan went 4-5 with five RBI and Katelyn Wells went 4-4 with a two-run homer and double, driving in three. Salem is now 1-1 on the year after beating Newburg Monday, 18-15. Wells also hit a two-run homer in that game for Salem who will be at Bakersfield Thursday afternoon at 4:30.

Rod Barajas finished 3-for-5, hit a pair of homers and knocked in four runs, as Los Angeles ripped St. Louis, 13-2, in the second of three between the clubs at Busch Stadium. Matt Kemp clubbed a three-run shot and Aaron Miles added a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who won for the fourth time in six games. Kyle Lohse (11-8) departed after three innings, charged in defeat for eight hits and a season-high eight runs. Ryan Theriot and Jon Jay drove in late runs for the Cardinals, who have lost six of their last eight and tumbled 10 games behind the first-place Brewers in the NL Central. The Cards and Dodgers play this afternoon at 12:40 on KSMO Radio.

Bruce Chen pitched brilliantly on Tuesday, throwing 7 2/3 strong innings to guide the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Chen gave up three runs on four hits. He fanned a season-high nine batters and issued only one walk. Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer cracked home runs, while Johnny Giavotella added an RBI double and Salvador Perez added two RBI for the Royals, who opened this series with a win after losing three of four to the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. The Royals and Blue Jays play again tonight.

Funeral services for Helen H. Stolte of Vichy, age 87, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vichy.

Funeral services for Clayton Stuart of Bunker, age 79, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home Bunker. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery near Bunker. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association

Funeral services for Bradley Anderson Payne of Steelville, age 93, will be held Friday afternoon at 5:30 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. A graveside service will be held Saturday at noon at the Kerns Chapel Cemetery in Springtown, Missouri. Visitation will be held Friday morning starting at 10:00 lasting through service time and afterwards until 9:00 PM.

Funeral services for Mary Alice Lay of Scottsville, Kentucky, age 71, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Reynolds-Corridon Cemetery in Reynolds County.
