The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Waynesville today starting at 4:30.
The Salem High School Lady Tiger Volleyball Team will have an Inter-Squad Scrimmage on Thursday, August 26th beginning at 6:30 pm. Admission is a bottle of water or Gatorade.
The 12th Tiger Club is sponsoring a Football Parade to be held on Friday, August 27th. That will be the Salem Tigers first home football game against Thayer. Businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade. Floats should line up around 5:30 between the Dent County Courthouse and East Salem Hill. The parade will take off around 6:00 pm and will arrive at the Salem Tiger Football Stadium before kick off. For more information contact Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441.
Albert Pujols' three-run home run in the first frame helped St. Louis rip Pittsburgh, 10-2, in the first of three games at PNC Park. Pujols had three hits and two runs scored, Matt Holliday had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Yadier Molina finished 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Kyle Lohse (2-5) pitched well into the sixth, giving up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 frames for the Cardinals, who have won three straight and currently sit one game behind Philadelphia in the National League wild-card race. They sit 2 1/2 games behind Cincinnati, which lost to San Francisco, for the top spot in the National League Central Division. The Cards and Pirates play again tonight at 5:45 on KSMO Radio.
Ryan Raburn went 3-for-4, knocked in three and scored twice, as the Detroit Tigers demolished the Kansas City Royals, 12-3, in the opener of a three-game set at Comerica Park. Gregor Blanco and Billy Butler each had two hits and an RBI for Kansas City, which had won five of seven entering the series opener. Bruce Chen (8-7), a winner of three of his last four starts coming in, lasted only 4 1/3 innings in this one. The journeyman righty yielded five runs on as many hits and walked five with a pair of strikeouts in taking the loss. The two teams play again tonight.
The St. Louis Rams signed free agent wide receiver Danario Alexander and released wide receiver Brooks Foster, the team announced Sunday. Alexander (6-5, 221) was an All-Big 12 performer at the University of Missouri last season after catching 113 passes for 1,781 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led all Football Bowl Subdivision players in receiving yards in 2009. In four seasons with the Tigers, Alexander posted 191 receptions for 2,778 yards and 22 touchdowns.
