The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2450, 2460, 2490, 6210, 6220, 6410 and 6420. He also reported that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6090, and that two men would be working on the main drive belt for the rock crusher at the gravel plant. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that two of his men would also be working on the rock crusher. Larson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2020 and 5280; and that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2200, 3233 and 3235. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting Wednesday afternoon. At the last meeting, the commissioners heard the bids on three-year financing rates on the two new Dent County Sheriff vehicles priced at $28,400 each. The commissioners received bids from US Bank, Bank of Salem, and Town and Country Bank. After calculations, the board went with the Town and Country Bank bid of 3.62% with no processing or origination fees as that bid would come out to be $40 less on three payments than the other two bids. Also at the last meeting SACBA President Ray Walden discussed the grant for the Farmer’s Market parking lot. The grant process has been slow and the county previously had pledged $4,000 of in-kind work of providing rock and Walden wanted to know if the county will honor that pledge. The commissioners said that they would. He also discussed the rural addressing statistics and a service contract on the Dell computer that the county owns for the rural addressing. No decision was made by the commission on extending the service contract on the computer. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts, burglary and fraud. On Thursday, August 11^th at 8:15 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Feed and Farm Supply at 1514 East Highway 32 in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that between August 10^th at 7:15 in the evening and August 11^th at 8:00 in the morning, a person or persons unknown entered the business by force and stole two laptop computers. That same day at 12:00 noon, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of West Glendale in reference to a report of fraud. That investigation revealed that a subject had started trimming trees for the resident. The person was paid for the job, left and never finished the work. That same afternoon at 2:30 an officer was called to the 600 block of E. Third St. in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that between August 10^th at midnight and August 11^th at 7:30 in the morning, a person or persons unknown took from the residence a Tony Hawk bicycle that was blue and black in color valued at $150. On Sunday, August 14^th at 5:45 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem man for driving while intoxicated, an open alcohol container, traffic charges and resisting arrest. He was issued summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. Later that morning at 11:30, an officer was contacted in reference to the theft of a Stihl model 446 chainsaw. The investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown took the saw from the back of a pickup while parked on the Wal-Mart parking lot. The saw was valued at $829. Anyone with any information on the thefts, property damage, burglary, or fraud is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol have released its arrest reports for Dent County. On Tuesday, August 9^th at 11:00 in the morning, 48 year-old Verna Thompson of Salem was arrested and charged with felony second-degree domestic assault and felony resisting arrest. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold. On Thursday, August 18^th at 5:30 in the evening, 25 year-old Brandon Rader of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for burglary and stealing. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. Later that night at 10:00, 25 year-old George Terrill of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for burglary in the second degree. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on bond.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will hold a special tax rate hearing and meeting tonight at 6:00 at the fire station. After the hearing is called to order and roll call, the board will discuss and set a tax levy rate. The board will then allow public comments before rate is set. The meeting will then adjourn. The meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

A Special Closed Session Meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman, called by Alderman Gerald Randell and Kenneth Nash, will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington today at 3:00 in the afternoon to consider personnel and litigation.

Motorists on Interstate 44 in Crawford County will soon experience a smoother ride as crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation prepare to resurface a portion of the westbound lanes. Work has been underway to make repairs to the existing pavement on westbound I-44 between Route H in Crawford County and the Phelps County line. The final step in the process is to apply an overlay on the pavement and that work began on Monday, August 22^nd. One lane will be open to traffic in the work area and work will take place during the overnight hours. The resurfacing is scheduled for completion in early December 2011. The contractor will have various types of traffic control in place to secure the safety of the motoring public as well as their employees. MoDOT encourages motorists to buckle up, slow down, follow work zone signing and drive safely through the area. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Waynesville today starting at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Aaron Miles hit an RBI triple and scored in the ninth inning, as the Dodgers overcame a strong start by Chris Carpenter to squeeze out a 2-1 win over the Cardinals in the opener of a three-game series Monday. Lance Berkman hit his 29^th homer of the year for all the Cardinal scoring. Carpenter went eight innings and gave up just five hits. The Cards and Dodgers play again tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

The Royals will be at Toronto tonight to start a three game set after having the day off Monday.

Funeral services for Helen H. Stolte of Vichy, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vichy.

Funeral services for Mary Alice Lay of Scottsville, Kentucky, age 71, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Reynolds-Corridon Cemetery in Reynolds County.
