The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6011, 6080 and 6083 and ditch work would be done on Dent County Road 5450. Simpson also said that material would be hauled to Dent County Road 5170 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2540, 3330, 3340 and 4430 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3180. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles brought up the issue of the road and bridge department not submitting invoices with their monthly bills that are signed by the Commission at the end of each month. Skiles said that every other department and office have to submit an invoice with the bill before the Commission sign off on them and he feels this should be the same for road and bridge. Commissioner Simpson said that all the invoices are kept at the road and bridge department and at the end of the month he checks off on each invoice, but the bills also have a summary of the invoices attached to them. Commissioner Skiles said that he spoke with Donna Christian, the Audit Manager from the State Auditor’s Office about this and she agreed that the invoices should be attached with the bill at the end of each month.  Commissioners Tune and Simpson stated that the Sheriff’s Department would then need to submit all their gas and prisoner meal invoices at the end of each month as well. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

During the 80^th Dent County Fall Festival on Thursday, August 21^st beginning at 7:00 at The Commons Stage in Salem, winners of the 2008 Jr. Miss and Miss Dent County for 2008, will be crowned by Miss Dent County 2007 Whitley Counts. Contestants for the Jr. Miss are: 12-year old Elaina Goff, 14-year old Ashlee LaRue, 14-year old Breanna Warden and 13-year old Joy Malott. Contestants for the 2008 Miss Dent County are: 16-year old Fara Julien, 18-year old Cortney Wainwright, 16-year old Alisha Sims, 17-year old Kendra Quick, 17-year old Alivia Elliott, 16-year old Janelle Conway and 16-year old Briana Land.

The 80^th Dent County Fall Festival will be held at “THE COMMONS”, located on Highway 72 North in Salem beginning today and running through Saturday, August 23^rd. The judging of exhibits will begin this morning at 8:00 and last until 2:00. The bakery and pie auction will be tonight at 6:00 and Church Night begins at 7:00 on the Stage Area. There will be no admission fee and wristbands for the night cost $15.00.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft and fraud. On August 14^th at 10:00 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Ozark Mobile Homes on South Highway 19 in reference to a theft. It was reported that 4 stereos were taken from 4 vehicles while parked on the lot. On August 15^th at 1:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to the fraudulent use of a credit device. The investigation revealed that on August 11^th at 1:45 in the afternoon, an unknown female used a debit card to obtain funds from an account through the ATM at Progressive Ozark Bank, without permission to do so. The City of Salem Fall Youth Soccer Program will begin soon. The Salem Parks and Recreation Department will be holding signups for boys and girls ages 4 through 12 this Thursday and Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Signups will also be held Saturday morning from 9:00 to 12:00 noon. The final signups will be held next Thursday and Friday, August 28^th and 29^th. The cost per child is $15.00. ALL signups will be held in the lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center (the old Armory.) Ian Snell mastered the Cardinal bats for seven shutout innings and Ryan Doumit had three hits and an RBI, as Pittsburgh took the opener of an abbreviated two-game series from St. Louis, 4-1. Braden Looper (11-10) pitched well enough to win but was victimized by a suspect bullpen performance, allowing only one run on three hits with a pair of walks and as many strikeouts over seven frames. St. Louis fell to 8 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in the NL- Central with the loss. Adam Kennedy drove in the only Cardinal run. Tonight the Cards and Piartes wrap up their two game series with Jason Davis (1-2) going for Pittsburgh and Todd Wellemeyer (10-4) pitching for St. Louis.

Cardinal’s pitcher Jason Isringhausen has been shut down indefinitely after an MRI exam Tuesday revealed tendonitis in his right elbow and a partial tendon tear in his flexor group. The team has prescribed only rest for the reliever and there is no timetable for his return to throwing.

Grady Sizemore hit a three-run homer, while Ryan Garko and Shin-Soo Choo chipped in solo shots as the Indians turned away the Royals, 9-4, in the opener of a three-game series. Anthony Reyes (2-1), in his third start since being acquired from the Cardinals, threw the minimum five innings to get the win, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks for the Indians, who have won three of four. Luis Hochevar (6-12) dropped his fifth straight decision, yielding four runs on seven hits in five innings. Mike Aviles had two hits, a walk and scored twice, while Jose Guillen knocked in a pair for Kansas City, which has dropped six of seven. Miguel Olivo was 3- for-4 in a losing effort. The two teams will play again tonight in Cleveland
